Canon introduces the PowerShot S80 it boasts of 8.0-megapixel resolution, the highest among Canon compact digital cameras. This means that larger-size prints can be made, even up to A3 size. Canon’s proprietary DIGIC II imaging processor accelerates processing speed, enhances color reproduction and improves autofocus precision. The PowerShot S80 can autofocus faster than the previous model, and enhanced exposure control has improved focusing in low-light conditions so images are sharp in situations where it was once difficult to focus.
The S80 comes with a built-in 28mm wide-angle lens, which offers users an extended range of creative possibilities. It can move from wide-angle to telephoto, the equivalent of a 28 – 100mm zoom lens in a 35mm film camera, at the touch of a button. Zooming power expands from an optical zoom of 3.6x to an approximately powerful 14x when used in conjunction with the digital zoom.
The 2.5-inch color LCD monitor offers a wide viewing angle, which makes it to see movies and photos. With a maximum resolution of 115,000 pixels, images are sharp, clear and natural. The backlight requires less energy while generating high brightness.
The S80 is designed to make a powerful impression. Its dark finish is complemented by the subtle shine of aluminum highlights. Though packed with advanced features, it is remarkably compact and fits comfortably in the palm of the hand. Controls are thoughtfully designed for optimal efficiency and easy access.
The Multi-Control Dial allows users to make menu selections, advance and reverse through images during playback, and perform other key functions easily. The User Interface (UI) display has been improved and simplified, making it more convenient than ever to shoot and view images. Another useful feature is the Camera Shake warning, which appears on the LCD monitor when the camera is not sufficiently stable for a shot.
The PowerShot S80 has 21 shooting modes. It is the first compact digital camera to feature high resolution XGA movie mode with up to 60 minutes of recording time, or up to 1 GB card size. The PowerShot S80 offers a total of four movie modes and includes options such as digital zooming in Standard mode, five slow-motion playback to review images, and editing by deleting scenes in one-second increments.
CUSTOMIZE COLOURS IN THE CAMERA AND REAL TIME HISTOGRAM
My Colors Function allows users to customize colors while shooting in both still and movie modes. Users can enhance specific colors, lighten or darken skin tones automatically, and create a variety of color effects without using a computer. There are nine pre-set modes so operation is remarkably easy.
The PowerShot S80 also comes with a real time histogram feature which provides instant information on the photo’s exposure to allow the user to make compensation and adjustments during real time shooing to achieve the best photo.
The S80 also features the Slide Show function, which allows users to display images as an automated slide show without a computer. Additionally, the Auto Rotate function ensures that images will be correctly oriented during playback, whether captured with the camera held vertically or horizontally.
When connected to a Canon CP printer, a movie can be transformed into a sequence of still images in the form of an index print. For instance, a golf swing can be examined frame by frame. Furthermore, a single movie frame can be extracted and made into a full-size print when connected to either a Canon Selphy Photo Developer or a PictBridge-compatible printer.
