Four men named after the four great evangelists. One night. One place of worship, the Our Lady of Perpetual Help church in Baclaran. A modern and relevant story about four hopeful hearts and desperate souls.
Richard Quan, Justin de Leon, Paulo Serrano, and Neil Ryan Sese play men at the edge of their lives. On the same night, they must face tough situations and make important decisions that will take them to a point of no return.
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, which may well be subtitled "Isang Gabi, Apat na Lalaki," is directed by Gil Portes and written by Senedy Que, Adolf Alix, and Portes. It is produced by September Films for Teamwork Productions. An entry to the ongoing Cinemanila (Oct. 12–25), digital film category.
Matthew (Justin) is a massage therapist who agrees to sexual favors to clients. He has gotten a girl, Sarah (Hannah Evangelista), pregnant. They live with their domineering mother, Pacita (Dexter Doria). He tells his wife he works in the graveyard shift of a call center, promising her they will live on their own once he has saved enough money.
But one night Sarah gets suspicious and catches Matthew giving oral sex to a gay client. She runs away from home.
Mark (Paulo) is a macho dancer, cocky and cunning hustler. Yet he is religious, always asking God for a sign in everything he does. His ultimate dream is to become an actor, joining an audition for a stage play. After the audition, Mark offers his body to the producer (Francis Villacorta), who refuses. Instead, he recommends the aspiring actor to a Chinese business associate.
The macho dancer pretends to be a movie actor, but the Chinese guy discovers he is not. He makes a scene and calls the hotel security, claiming that Mark stole his money. Mark barely gets away. Is this a sign for him to mend his ways?
Luke (Richard) is a DI (dance instructor) who has a rich widow, Eva, (Maria Isabel Lopez) for a sugar mommy. Unknown to her, Luke has a wife Lena, (Liza Diño) and an autistic child, Joey (Fritz Chavez). He hangs on to the relationship to save enough money for Joey’s expensive therapy and special education.
Eva has a stepson, Jude (Diego Malvar), who is jealous of Luke as he himself had a fling with Eva. One night, Jude beats Luke black and blue and drags Eva away.
John (Neil Ryan) is a former live–sex performer (toro) with his sick wife, Gloria (Ynez Veneracion), as partner, Samuel (Robert Correa). He makes an offer John finds hard to refuse: Perform toro one more time before Japanese tourists. The fee is R20,000, badly for Gloria’s hospitalization. The couple agree.
As John and Gloria perform in front of the tourists, she coughs up blood. The tourists panic and run away, the leader unknowingly leaving his clutch bag filled with money. John takes Gloria to the hospital...along with the money.
The paths of the four men – Mathhew, Mark, Luke, and John – cross the same night at the Baclaran church, all of them praying to our Lady of Perpetual Help for guidance, blessing, and forgiveness.
Richard Quan and Neil Ryan Sese are accomplished stage actors who also shine on television and movies. Richard was introduced in Carlitos Siguion Reyna’s "Saan Ka Man Naroon" as the other leading man in the Richard Gomez–Dawn Zulueta starrer. Neil Ryan got his movie break in Gil Portes’ "Gatas: Sa Dibdib ng Kaaway," playing a cruel Japanese soldier in the World War ll drama topbilled by Jomari Yllana, Kenji Motoki, and Mylene Dizon.
Justin de Leon and Paulo Serrano belong to the Viva Hot Men. Justin is a regular in the noontime show "Chow Time" on IBC–13 and has several movie–TV stage credits. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John is Paulo’s first film.
