MTV Philippines launches three new shows

TV, the world’s largest TV station and the popular favorite music channel of the youth, recently launched three new shows for its local franchise MTV Philippines, namely – "MTV Homecoming," "MTV Get Hitch’d," and "Rex in the City."

The launch party held last Oct. 11 at M Café in Greenbelt was hosted by MTV VJs KC Montero, Cindy Kurleto, Marc Abaya, and John Joe Joseph. Other personalities seen at the event were MTV VJ Claire Olivar, MTV PR executive Lizette Claudio, businessman cum media man RJ Ledesma, former TV personality-turned-talent manager Franco Mabanta, Cosmopolitan Philippines magazine editor-in-chief – Ianne S. Evangelista, productions director Jack Madrid, and MTV marketing director Chris Tan Lopez who gave insights on what to expect regarding the upcoming new show – "Rex in the City."

Music of the affair was provided by the indie band Up Dharma Down and dj Caliph8.

"MTV Homecoming" follows the country’s hottest artists as they take a trip down memory lane to their former schools, tambayans, and neighborhood hangouts to chat with old teachers and childhood friends. Each back-to-school trip is capped off with a mini-concert—a one-of-a-kind homecoming fit for a star. The reality show, which takes a sneak peek into the lives of music stars before they became famous, premiered last Oct. 10, with Rachelle Ann Go as the featured artist in the first episode.

MTV VJ Marc Abaya, a popular figure in the music industry for being the lead singer of Sandwich, and currently of Kjwan, will be hosting the show which will feature Nyoy Volante, Sugarfree, Imago, Kyla, Hale, Sarah Geronimo, and more in upcoming episodes. It airs on Mondays at 11 p.m., with replays on Wednesdays at 8 p.m., Fridays at 11 a.m., and Saturdays at 6 p.m. It is presented by the Nokia N90 and the MTV Card by Equitable Card.

"MTV Get Hitch’d" is the newest reality dating show, tailor-fit for the typical torpe Pinoy. Each week, MTV VJ John Joe Joseph plays cupid by helping a shy guy snag a date with the girl of his dreams through an ultracool MTV-style makeover that will cover the guy’s hairstyle, clothes, and shoes. Plus, each guy is sent off to conquer his dating dilemmas with renewed confidence, thanks to the practical advice and entertaining bits from VJ John Joe and his alter-ego, the Get Hitch’d Geekazoid. The show airs on Wednesdays at 11 p.m., which started Oct. 12, with replays on Thursdays at 11 a.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 6 p.m. It is presented by Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and Skechers.

"Rex in the City" is another exciting offering coming up. Popular Fil-Am stand-up comedian Rex Navarrete recently joined MTV Philippines to star in his own reality show. This new series follows his kooky and crazy adventures around Manila. Currently in production, the show is expected to begin airing on the network in November 2005.

MTV Philippines is on UHF channel 41 and channel 22 for Sky and Home cable subscribers. It is also seen on IBC 13.
