Just when 18year old actress Vanna Garcia stepped into a mature and daring role via "Tuli," a digital film by Auraeus Solito, as a step to enhance her showbiz career, she was met with a scandal.
Vanna was surprised to learn that she was reported to be trying to break up the relationship of Councilor Aiko Melendez and Martin Jickain, her ex. who was her boyfriend for three years. According to her, even if Martin never gave her a reason why he ended their relationship, she was never persistent in finding out why. A week after their break-up she was even more surprised to find out that Martin and Aiko have become an item.
Vanna confided that she got an SMS allegedly from Aiko Melendez a few days ago, because it had the name Aiko M, through Gerry, her and Martin’s common friend. The message was: "Let’s not ruin our professionalism. Let’s move on and be civilized about things...as a friend I suggest that we be educated enough and let things be...I do hope you love us and let fate decide our relationship...as a favor I do hope you’d stop saying things that would hurt the one I love because it’s hurting me as well."
The irony is that according to Vanna, she doesn’t know Aiko and Martin’s celphone numbers because they’ve changed it.
"Kung masaya sila okay lang...Martin and I have been together for three years na on and off...ako okay na ako sa ngayon, tanggap ko na, if it is not meant to be then it is not meant to be...hindi sa galit ako, manhid na."
She also laughed at the rumor that she and the ex of Aiko are now an item. She said that she and Jonard Yanzon have something in common and they went out with friends and just talked about things. According to her, Jonard is still in love with Aiko.
With regards to her acting career, Vanna said she took the role of Botchok in "Tuli" as the first step towards another acting level - playing mature roles. Still classified as a teenager, she has tired of having a sweet image onscreen. She felt limited being such and she thinks she has what it takes to pursue that level of acting that she has stepped into.
"Hindi naman sexy movie ang ‘Tuli.’ I’m moving to a new level which is daring. If my photos are sexy, they are to tease people lang. I also don’t have breasts exposures in this film," she explained. "I’m not closing my doors though, but right now I’m not thinking about it."
Her role also becomes controversial because she plays a battered daughter who is the bestfriend of Desiree del Valle’s character in the film and eventually they fall for each other. They have a kissing scene!
"This was the first time I kissed a girl in an intimate fashion. Nakakatuwa but for me it’s all work...nagkaroon kami ng relasyon kasi kailangan and we have to prove something sa mga tao na parang ayaw na namin ng lalaki," she related.
So what was challenging for her in "Tuli?"
"They cut my hair and that was something. Another is yung start ng character ko na fun loving and carefree tapos nag-shift to someone na may maraming problema. sa dulo, very strong na babae na."
In "Tuli," she is joined by Carlo Aquino, Bembol Roco, Eugene Domingo, Ama Quiambao, Luis Alandy and Jess Evardone. The movie revolves around the life of a remote barrio’s "manunuli" and his daughter who would inherit her father’s profession someday.
If you’re still wondering why she shifted to more mature roles, here’s her candid answer: "Kasi sa industry natin marami ng tweetums, wholesome yung iba nga hindi ko na kilala. So I thought I have to prove something new, show something and do something new para masabing itong si Vanna pwede palang gumawa ng iba."
With an all natural figure of 34-26341/2, Vanna expects that the public, especially the men would start looking at her differently. And she doesn’t mind it if she’d be looked upon as a sexy actress now.
"Sino ba namang babae ang ayaw na pinaglalawayan siya ng mga lalaki," Vanna giggled. "Ang plastic naman nila kung sabihin nila yuck. Siyempre gusto mo iniisip ka ng tao, gusto mo yung feeling na ina-admire ka, pinapantasya ka!"
This move too was made possible because she trusts Viva, which has managed her for more than six years already.
"This was not a desperate move kasi I’ve always wanted this before. Ayaw ko na ng tweetums, I wanted another level...I also wanted to be recognized as a good actress!"
Vanna’s also grateful that her parents, as always, were very supportive of her decision.
So who’s Vanna Garcia? She is moviedom’s screen siren ON THE RISE!
