Lovi Poe unscrews hinges of private life’s door

What’s to be expected in a 16–year–old girl’s bedroom?

The answer would really have to depend on the kind of girl that she is. However, if she’s as pretty and talented as the late Fernando Poe, Jr.’s daughter, Lovi Poe, there’s no doubt her bedroom also houses attractive objects.

Sweet? Kind of. Clean? Definitely. But because of the many objects in Lovi’s room that point to her interests, it would be useless to use just one word to describe it.

"I love white because it’s so soothing and clean. I’m not really fussy with my bedroom. As a matter of fact it’s my mom who buys my stuff because I’m not fond of shopping unless I really need something. As long as the things that she puts in my room look pretty I’m fine with that," shares Lovi as we get to her bedroom which has every corner of it splashed with white — walls, sheer curtains, venetian blinds, beddings, and furry mats sent to her by her uncle based in London.

Raised by very protective parents, Lovi admits she’s normally confined within the fence and gates of her home situated in one of Makati City’s posh subdivisions.

"My mom is very protective that’s why even though I’ve long wanted to enter show business I had a hard time in getting her approval. She wants me to live a simple life and not grow up an extravagant woman. When my dad was still alive, he initially didn’t want me to enter showbiz also but now I know he’s guiding me," tells Lovi.

Whenever she’s home, Lovi’s favorite pastime is sitting in front of her TV watching all episodes of "Friends" on her DVD. This in spite of the fact that she has seen each episode countless of times already.

"I’m addicted to ‘Friends’ I never get tired watching it," claims Lovi. Her other collections include the CDs of her favorite singers Regine Velasquez, Nina, Britney Spears, and Mariah Carey.

Aside from TV viewing and listening to music, Lovi also loves to play her own tunes on her piano, guitar and flute. Oh yes, she’s so in love with music that it’s not enough for her that she can sing. She plans to be good at playing all kinds of musical instruments as well.

"I used to play the piano when I was still in grade school but I stopped so to refresh my memory on the keys I’m taking up lessons again. I’m now learning the keys of the song entitled ‘Dream of Me’ from the movie ‘Get Over It.’ I also like playing the guitar, I’ve already attended four sessions of my guitar class," she shared.

As for the flute on top of her right bedside table which also holds books, an antique lamp and a bottle of Escada Sentiment?

"I used to play the flute when I was still in grade school. It was part of our music class and I enjoyed it," she quips.

Lovi knows she is seriously called to be in ‘musiclandia’ and she intends to give her best now that she has penetrated the industry. She is currently working on her debut album which is slated for release early next year. Inclusive in this album are love songs from Raymond Ryan, Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, and many other brilliant composers.

When it comes to fashion, Lovi describes herself as somebody who knows when and when not to dress up.

"I’m mostly in jeans and shirt or tank tops. But when the occasion calls for me to dress up like a pictorial such as this one, I dress up a little bit more," rationalizes Lovi.

Inspecting the other corners of her room, we find a huge poster of Fernando Poe Jr. on top of a wooden table by the window, and an 8 x 10 solo picture of him atop Lovi’s left bedside table. These photographs keep her close to him, says Lovi, but even without it in her room there’s no cure to the pain that she still feels whenever she thinks of her dad.

"I still feel bad whenever I think of him but I know he wants me to move on. Every time I start feeling sad, I call up my friends because I don’t want to tell my mom and just make her feel bad as well," explains Lovi.

With sweet music from her piano and talks on ‘FRIENDS’ and her dad enveloping her bedroom, one need not wonder why Lovi can spend an entire day in her haven.
