Three Valenzuela City councilors have jointly filed a resolution at the city council asking the Supreme Court to institute remedial measures aimed at unclogging pending cases in the city’s metropolitan and regional trial courts.
Records at the city council showed that there are more than 7,808 cases clogging the city courts, making it hard for judges to render decisions necessary for the speedy dispensation of justice.
In Resolution No. 157, Councilors Ritche Cuadra, Tony Padrianao and Eric Martinez cited the figures as compelling reason for the High Court to add at least five more court salas to handle other cases.
Judge Floro Alejo of Valenzuela City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 172 threw his support to the resolution, citing the "uneven" creation of courts among the cities of Caloocan, Valenzuela and Malabon.
"We have only three regional trial court branches compared with Caloocan City’s 13 salas and five for Malabon," Alejo lamented.
