Career service tests

Examinees of the Career Service Professional and Subprofessional examinations from Metro Manila are advised to visit the Civil Service Commission-National Capital Region (CSC-NCR) office to check and verify their school and room assignments.

The CSC will be conducting today its nationwide the Career Service professional and subprofessional examinations.

Examinees may also verify their school and room assignments through the CSC website www.csc.gov.ph.

Philets book fair

The Philets Foundation, Inc., a non-stock, non-profit corporation established by graduates of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (Philets) of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST), is now collecting books from alumni and friends for the book fair, to be held at the Lung Center Park, Quezon City, on Dec. 4.

Drop-off points for book donations include all Book Sale outlets in SM malls in Metro Manila.

Proceeds of the fair will go to a scholarship fund for writers or deserving students in the field of communication arts.

Philets alumni may call the secretariat care of Menchu Bon, at 459-9339 for inquiries.

Chemical hazard meet

The Regional Workshop on Chemical Hazard Communication and Implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals for countries of ASEAN will open at the Dusit Hotel in Makati City tomorrow at 9 a.m.

The workshop is organized through the collaboration of the Philippine government, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the International Labor Organization (ILO), with financial support from the European Union, the government of Switzerland, and Foreign Affairs Canada.

Free liver consultation

The nationwide campaign for the care of the liver dubbed "Alagaan Ating Atay" continues with free consultation every Saturday at 5/f JMJ Bldg., P. Sanchez cor. Pat Antonio Sta. Mesa, Manila.

Jim Acosta, president of Psalmstre, makers of Livermin capsule, said that the effort was aimed at helping ease the country’s problem on Hepatitis B which, experts said, has already affected more than eight million Filipinos.

PENTRAD confab

The Philippine Educators Network for Training, Research and Development, Inc. (PENTRAD) will conduct a national conference on teacher excellence at Bayview Park Hotel, Roxas Blvd., Manila on October 20-21.

The seminar’s theme is "Teacher Excellence: A Common Aspiration, A Common Journey’’ is endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Education.

UP Alphans hold forum on Oct. 21

The UP Alpha Phi Beta Chancery Inc. will hold its First Alphan Breakfast Forum on Oct. 21 at the Stoffal Room, Hotel Rembrandt on Tomas Morato Extension, Quezon City from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Speakers have been invited to give a brief talk on the topic "The State of the Legal Education in the Philippines.’’ Among those expected to speak is newly elected Dean Salvador T. Carlota of the UP College of Law.

He will be joined by deans of other law schools like Dean Antonio Tupaz of PUP College of Law, Dean Pacifico A. Agabin of Lyceum College of Law, Dean Edgar E. Tarriela of PLM Graduate School of Law, and Justice Wenceslao I. Agnir Jr. of Northwestern University-Laoag College of Law.

Dean Carlota will also lead his fellow deans as honorees for their achievements in the field of legal education.

During the affair, newly appointed Judge Dennis Patrick Z. Perez will be recognized for his recent appointment as a member of the Judiciary, including Dean Tupaz, lawyer Alexander L. Lacson, lawyer Eduardo Malaya, and Jonathan E. Malaya who will be given citations for the books they have authored. The new website of the UP Alpha Phi Beta Fraternity will also be launched.

The host of the festivities are former Presidential Commission on Good Government chairman and Presidential Legal Counsel Elma Magdangal, lawyer Roberto Lucila, and Robert Parel.
