With the growing Filipino population in almost every country in the world, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is promoting the Filipino cuisine to help Filipinos abroad keep their culture alive, and even convince foreign tourists to visit the Philippines.
Philippine Ambassador to The Hague Romeo Arguelles launched recently a Filipino cooking demonstration in The Hague in The Netherlands to promote the Filipino cuisine among prospective foreign tourists in Europe.
Arguelles said that the promotion of Filipino cuisine, in line with the DFA’s policy of employing cultural diplomacy, is also expected to pave the way for more Filipino food exports to countries in Europe.
"The event provided increased international exposure to Filipino cuisine that could pave way for the introduction of more quality Filipino food products in Dutch markets and grocery outlets," Arguelles said.
In October, the Philippine Embassy in The Hague launched at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in The Netherlands the Philippine Cooking Demonstration which featured popular Filipino dishes like chicken adobo and beef caldereta.
Foreign and Filipino participants in the cooking demonstration also tried to cook Filipino dishes like lumpiang shanghai, pinoy barbecue, sinigang na sugpo, and pansit canton.
The cooking demonstration was organized by the Philippine Embassy, the Mama Sita Foundation, and the Philippine Trade Office in Rotterdam.
Among the participants and guests are food critics from two major Dutch newspapers and Filipino retailers and officers of the Netherlands Ministry of Economic Affairs.
