Rich purse staked in JVC inter-scholastics

   

OVER R300,000 in cash prizes will be up for grabs when the JVC Interscholastic Badminton Championships, featuring the country’s rising and top players in high school and collegiate ranks, is held Nov. 17-23 at the PowerSmash Badminton Center and Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City.

The college side alone is staking P50,000 each for the team champion in the men’s and ladies’ divisions of the JVC-sponsored event while the winners in the boys’ and girls’ categories in high school play will get R20,000 each. The second and two third place teams in both divisions will also receive cash prizes.

The organizing IMG said registration is free and is ongoing. Entry forms are available on the website, www.jvcbadminton.com, and at Unit 1411 Cityland Herrera Tower, Herrera cor. Valero Sts., Salcedo Village, Makati City, and at Asuncion Badminton Center, No. 20 E. Maclang cor. P. Guevarra Sts., San Juan, Metro Manila. The draw will be held Nov. 13 at the Asuncion Badminton Center starting at 9 a.m. Incomplete requirements at the time of the draw will disqualify the school from the tournament.

A record field is expected with defending champions UST (men’s) and La Salle (ladies’) likely to be crowded by FEU, Ateneo, UP, College of St. Benilde, Siena College, UP Los Baños, University of Baguio, PUP, University of Makati, TIP, Lyceum, PMI, CCP, EARIST, De La Salle-Araneta Univ., PNU, RTU, Miriam College and Trinity.

Joining the hunt for top honors in the collegiate division are the regional winners of the nationwide JVC badminton tourneys, including Holy Angel University of Pampanga, University of Visayas, University of San Jose Recoletos-Cebu, University of Mindanao, Ateneo de Davao and Iloilo Doctors College.

Arellano (boys’) and Poveda (girls’) will be out to defend their titles in the high school division with the challenge to come from the likes of Marcelo H Del Pilar, Ateneo, Xavier School, Woodrose, Siena College, De La Salle Zobel, Rizal High School, Little Mary Heart Montessori, De La Salle Antipolo and University of Perpetual Help-Laguna.
