There will be no additional cost on existing clients if they upgrade to BrightStor r11.5, the latest integrated set of modular Intelligent Storage Management (ISM) solutions of Computer Associate.
The latest version would be available in the market through CA’s channel partners — HyperTech and WSI and its distributors.
The ISM would enable organizations to manage and protect information and storage assets while aligning storage spending with business objectives.
Raymond Goh, CA senior consultant for technical services has recently made a presentation before CA clients on the features and enhancements of BrightStor r11.5 compared to the previous versions.
As the storage volume continues to grow faster than the storage budgets, the new version helps CA clients to optimize the efficiency of storage operations and reduce the total cost of ownership through a streamlined virtual tape automation and simplified administration of storage assets.
Goh said that ISM allows users to identify the organization’s resources and information, able to classify data based on a particular server farm, define certain workflows and best practices of the industry and the capability of automating the processes.
Companies would be able to manage well its data, assets and other information efficiently through BrightStor r11l5. They could assess the risks of the data and manage the contents of the storage.
They would know the design of the topology for their business needs and how to deploy the solution, monitor all devices to ensure their connectivity and track all assets such as hardware, software or services.
Goh said that through BrightStor r11.5’s hierarchical storage management (HSM), users could automate the process, implement and migrate the data to low-cost secondary storage tier.
HSM allows data availability, backup, reduce risk and enhance operational efficiency. It can also do backup data management and security and compliance requirements.
A new feature of BrightStor r11.5 is its capability to act as an agent for Oracle software enhancements for RMAN graphical user interface (GUI), backup and restore script on the fly.
Another new enhancement is the BrightStor storage command center where users can have a single point of management, provides business and technical analysis and a dashboard view of the current storage status.
The major markets of CA’s storage solution are the manufacturing, call centers, banking, airlines and utilities.
CA has also partnered with Dell Computer and HP Phils that bundled its BrightStor solution.
Petron Corp., the country’s largest oil company has recently deployed BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.1 for its SAP business application.
The company has switched to Brightstor ARCserve from its former backup solution because of the need to improve its speed and reliability in doing online backup.
Danilo Balcos, Jr., Petron’s database administrator said that Brightstor ARCserve has enhanced the company’s backup performance and speed.
"For an organization like Petron, we simply cannot take chances when it comes to data availability and recoverability," said Balcos.
Balcos handles Petron’s mission-critical data and knows how crucial the backup system to the company’s business.
"We were in charge of ensuring data recoverability. Every day, we do a full online backup of our core enterprise application on super digital linear tape (SDLT). When that failed, we used our offline redo logs to update the last successful backup," said Balcos.
