Villamor shines in WGAP Circuit

   

VILLAMOR BROKE into the win column in Class A behind the 40-point effort of Marissa Romano in the eighth and penultimate leg of the Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines WGAP Circuit at the Mt. Malarayat Golf and Country Club in Lipa, Batangas.

Mei Fuhong scored 38, Sarah Cruz 37 and Jo Barredo chipped in 35 as the Villamor ladies totaled 150 to turn back Sta. Elena by two points for the title with Riviera placing four points behind.

Villamor actually won all the three divisions with the quartet of Beth Romero, Ting Yupangco, Nancy Tsay and Carol Nielsen topping Class B.

Romero and Yupangco combined for 86 points to lead Villamor (155) to a four-point win over Riviera. Alabang wound up third.

Malarayat, made up of Digna Coronado, Ingrid Moeller, Aida Cilindro and Edna Suguira, salvaged Class C with 154 points, four better than the team of Alabang and 13 ahead of Forest Hills.

Individual winners were Japanese Carr of Malarayat in Class A, Mi Jung Oh in Class B and Christine Naidoo in Class C.

Alabang retained the WGAP Cup lead with 33 points, followed by Sta. Elena at 31, Southwoods at 18 and Villamor at 9 going into the final leg at Sta. Elena on Oct. 24.

The top four clubs will compete in the WGAP Cup on Nov. 8 at Sherwood, Nov. 15 at Northwoods and Nov. 22 at Canlubang.
