Twenty journalists and journalism educators have been named fellows of the 14th Lopez Jaena Journalism Workshop on Media and Gender Sensitivity ongoing until Oct. 29, at the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication (UP CMC).
The fellows are Grace Albasin (Philippine Daily Inquirer), Noel Sales Barcelona (Pinoy Weekly), Filemon Baturiano (Bikol Mail), Teresa Campos (Radyo ng Bayan-Tuguegarao City), John Anthony Concepcion (ABS-CBN News Online), Donna Demetillo (Women’s Feature Service), Agnes Dimzon (The Visayas Examiner), Jose Alfonso Garalde (Aquinas University-Legazpi City), Romano Cortes Jorge (Manila Times), Freddie Lazaro (Manila Bulletin), Liezel Longboan (Igorota Magazine-Baguio City), Jennifer Manongdo (Manila Bulletin), Thelma Dumpit-Murillo (House of Representatives), Portia Palma (Philippine Information Agency), Alan Pelayo (University of Northeastern Philippines-Naga City), Ilang-ilang Quiapo (Pinoy Weekly), Cepheus Quiñones (Radyo Natin Zambales), Vincent Jan Cruz Rubio (Silangan Shimbun), Ismael Talili (Cagayan de Oro College) and Miriam Torrecampo (People’s Tonight).
The training team for this workshop is composed of distinguished journalists, academicians and gender rights advocates. College scholarships for high school graduates
De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB)’s School of Management and Information Technology (SMIT) offers scholarships to motivated working students and professionals. Through the Blessed Arnould Assistance Program (BASAP), aspiring scholars can now apply for scholarships to two degree programs under the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration: Business Management and Marketing Management.
Applicants must be working men and women at least 19 years old with a gross personal income not over Php 104,000.00. They should have satisfactory high school records or may have started but were not able to complete their college degrees.
The application for school year 2006-2007 is ongoing until Dec. 20. To get application forms, candidates must bring their original and photocopied birth certificates and their recent Income Tax Return with W2, or statement of employment and salary certified by employer or barangay officials. Language seminar set
The 10th International Conference on Austronesian Linguistics (ICAL) will be hosted by the Linguistics Society of the Philippines and SIL International from Jan. 17-20, 2006, at The Legend Hotel in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. Plenary speakers will be Dr. Lawrence Reid,who will be speaking on "Aspects of Morphosyntax of ProtoNorthern Luzon" and Dr. Nicole Revel, to speak on"Epics in Austronesian Languages and Cultures: Ethnopoetics, Ethnomusicology and Ethnology."
Special sessions will include: Austronesian sociolinguistics, Austronesian transitity, dictionary and dictionary-making in Austronesian, early austronesian sub-grouping, epics in Austronesian language and cultures, language of Maluku, languages and literature in Palawan, noun phrase structures: Functional elements and reference tracking, pronoun ordering typology in Austronesian, and teaching austronesian languages.
