DLSU finishes inquiry, results bared tomorrow

DE LA Salle’s investigating panel looking into the basketball scandal that has turned the Green Archer recruitment program upside down has completed its inquiry and will announce its findings tomorrow morning in a press conference at the Hyatt Hotel.

Since announcing that it was returning its 2004 UAAP championship trophy last Oct. 11 after it found out that two of its players were ineligible, La Salle has not said a word about the investigation, has not identified any of the players or officials involved and has not provided any clue on what it plans to do with its findings.

Instead, the university has left the media to speculate on its course of action, identify the players and dig into the circumstances that led to the enrolment of two high school undergraduates, one of whom has been playing three years with the Green Archers.

"We will end all these talks and speculation and make public our findings," said a La Salle source familiar with the inquiry but has requested anonymity.

He said many of the things that had come out in the media were not true but La Salle chose not to correct the reports so as not to distract the panel from its investigation.

The main characters in the scandal that could lead to a ban or suspension of La Salle in the UAAP, the players in question, were asked to appear separately during the investigation.

La Salle has not named them but the two were identified in press reports as Mark Benitez and Tim Gatchalian.

La Salle President Bro. Armin Luistre will attend the press conference along with Lito Tanjuatco (La Salle’s representative to the UAAP), and Dr. Lita Quebengco, the university’s executive vice president.
