Vergara leads Toby’s Badminton winners

   

MARK CHESTER Vergara rallied past Kenneth Garceron, 16-17, 15-11, 15-13, yesterday to advance to the third round of the 2005 Toby’s Age Group Badminton Championships boys’ singles 18-under division at the La Salle Greenhills FMAC gym.

Other winners were Winston Aquillo over Rustum Oliver Caunga, 15-2, 15-3, Adrian Toledo over James Marcos, 15-5, 15-2, Jose Miguel Manzanares over Le Re Park, 15-8, 154, Ramil Mercado over Lloyd Dacusin, 15-4, 15-4, Jerome Albina over Aldrin Basco, 15-10, 15-13, Paolo Dawal over Stephen Pia, 15-10, 15-8, Rey Magallanes over JV Garduce, 153, 15-8, Arvin Legaspi over John Ninalga, 15-11, 15-5, and Renz Gesmundo over Ralph Luigi Rayos, 15-2, 15-1.

In the girls’ singles 18-under class, Rachelle Tengco survived Erika Gana, 11-13, 11-6, 11-3, Angelica Pardo defeated Shiela Laguna, 13-12, 118, Jerlie Magnayi demolished Camille Bautista, 112, 11-1 and Fres Sagnip blasted Mijellen del Rosario, 11-0, 11-0 to join Raquel Ann Guerrero, Rose Ann dela Cruz, Maricris Ravela, Erma Galario and Leah Frias in the second round.

Booking second-round berths in the boys’ 16-under doubles division were C dela Cruz and Jonard Dery, Renz Vivas and Roden Rivera, De Jesus and Emmanuel Cabalfin, V Dizon and Marco Parungo, DJ Agustin and C Lasaten, Jonathan Jugo and J Labrador, JP Magsalos and JP Llanes, Jules and Jed Perez, and Kim Patrick Santos and Paolo Andres.

In the girls’ 14-under singles, Kathleen Balatbat defeated Betchada Padilla, 11-8, 11-5, Jessalam Sampurna outplayed Klara Undan, 11-8, 11-6, Keeshalane Theosossis downed Dorine Go, 11-7, 11-5, Anna Victoria Espiritu beat Frances Paula Tirazona, 11-1, 11-4, Fatima dela Cruz trounced Bettina dela Paz, 11-4, 11-0, and Michelle Aseron clobbered Divine Grace Magdangal, 11-1, 11-1 to advance in the third round.
