MORE than 2,000 educators, educational administrators, researchers, and other stakeholders in education converge today in Davao City for the three-day National Educators’ Congress sponsored by the Department of Education (DepEd).
With the theme "English, Science, and Mathematics: The Cutting Edge of Schools and Communities," the Congress will identify the strengths and areas for development in the handling of the three subject domains in the basic education curriculum. It will give DepEd and the participants an opportunity to draw up a Framework for Action that schools can undertake to enhance their students’ competitiveness in English, science, and mathematics. The participating institutions will also be able to agree on collaborative engagements that would develop the capacities, especially of the teachers, to facilitate learning and upgrade the knowledge and competencies of students.
On the first day of the Congress, speakers will discuss the cognitive, pedagogical, and other related dimensions of English, science, and mathematics learning in the first years of formal schooling. The second day will be devoted to the presentation of innovative projects undertaken in the three subject domains, within and outside the country. The final day of the Congress will focus on "Moving for Action and Results."
The noteworthy achievements of some of our teachers and students in regional and international competitions in English, science, and mathematics, indicate that with sufficient support and adequate resources, we can make great progress in these three basic areas of education.
We congratulate the Department of Education for the convening of the 2005 National Educators’ Congress and wish the participants success.
