Young independent filmmaker Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez, a product of UE, served as the resource speaker in the Digital Film and Music Video segment together with editor John Anthony Wong.
Sanchez, who wrote and directed the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival finalist "Lasponggols" and the Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival entry "Ang Anak ni Brocka," also helmed the music videos for Sugar Free’s "Hari ng Sablay," which won in the recent Awit Awards, Hale’s "The Day You Said Good Night," and Kyla’s "Till They Take My Heart Away."
Wong, on the other hand, works as an editor for Pixel Post Production House and as editor/animator for GMA Channel 7’s Post-Production Department, handling television plugs and program commercials. He previously served as a broadcasting consultant for the University of Makati Center for Performing and Digital Arts, disc jockey at 102.7 Star FM, and as head of the editing department, technical consultant, and instructor at the Centro Escolar University.
Cinemalaya short film finalists Pamela Ann Miras, Sunshine Matutina, Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, Rain Avanzado, and Margie Templo of Arkeomedia graced the second part of the festival, which screened "Alimuom," "Babae," "Blood Bank," "Kultado,""Mansyon," and "Panaginipan," along with "Dead Letter" from UE alumna Grace Orbon and "Kahon" and "Pintuan" from UE CFA instructor Richard Legaspi.
UE Caloocan Chancellor Ernesto de Castro and CFA Dean Gerardo Tan served as the guest speakers during the festivities. Ellen Villanueva and Edgardo Garcia are the current advisers of the 16-year UE-based art group. The event was made possible through the support of Cinemalaya, Knitech, Buklod Alumni Society, Crystal Clear, and Archives Digital Imaging Photography.
Meanwhile, Ugnayan featured body painting and live art performances from participating countries Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, and Wales during the celebration of the UE Foundation Week, recently.
The UE College of Fine Arts aims to provide students the opportunity to explore and develop a range of skills and creative accomplishments for building solid foundations for professional careers in art and design.
The college also held a comics appreciation and illustration workshop at the UE CFA lobby. Nautilus Comics publisher Jamie Bautista and editor Elbert Or will share their experiences and provide some tips regarding their work in coming up with issues of Cast comics and the National Book Awardee "Siglo: Freedom," which pools the best comic art illustrators in the country and tackles heavier issues of politics and society.
