Julieta Torcelino-van Ruyven, the author of a world bestseller, The Tale of Juliet, came, saw, and conquered the hearts of her audience at Jose Rizal University recently, where she finished a BCS Management degree, class of ‘84, some 21 years ago. Before a jampacked audience of students and faculty, Juliet related her jet-like plight from poverty to prosperity.
No less than Dr. Vincent K. Fabella, the President of Jose Rizal University, gave the welcome remarks and impressed upon his audience the value of quality education from an institution whose academic programs have Level III accreditation, a rare seal of excellence. Among the 1,718 colleges and universities of the land, very few institutions have Level III accreditations for their academic programs. Globally, accreditation is the mode adopted by higher education institutions to ensure the delivery of quality education. He also took the opportunity to inform the students and faculty about the various physical infrastructure improvements in the campus, as well as academic program benchmarking, and reengineering efforts in the pedagogical front, to enable us to produce many more outstanding alumni and many more Juliets, who would personify the vision, mission, and values of Jose Rizal University.
Dr. Agnes Pajares of the high school division ably emceed the program in honor of a returning alumna. The author and some University officers proceeded to the Graduate Tower, which housed the Law School and the Graduate School, where Juliet continued narrating her never-ending tale over a sumptuous lunch.
