Bermejo triple at Toby’s

   

A PERFECT weekend for Marco Bermejo.

The cat-quick Bermejo rallied past Joper Escueta, 15-5, 0-15, 15-3, last Saturday to pocket the boys’ singles 12-under title and complete a golden triple in the 2005 Toby’s Age Group Badminton Championships at the SM Megamall.

Bermejo highlighted his glorious weekend by also winning the doubles and mixed titles.

His partnership with Ivan Angsico gave them a 15-5, 15-4 victory over the duo of Steven Kabanal and Escueta in the doubles.

He also annexed the mixed doubles title in tandem with Abigail Garcia. They overpowered Sampang Sampur-na and Pia Fabros, 15-5, 915, 15-7.

In other results, Gelita Gastilo won the girls’ singles title over Abigail Garcia, 11-3, 11-0. Gastilo and Kiara Castelo defeated Patricia Sofia Alcasid and Marie Clare Therese Aseron, 15-10, 15-2, for the girls doubles title.

In the 10-under division, Carlo Remo downed Francis Alejo, 15-13, 15-9, for the boys’ singles title. Al Craven Chan and Jan Banquilles outplayed Remo and Alejo, 17-16, 15-7, for the boys’ doubles title while Chan and Malvinne Alcala downed Michelle Milan and Banquilles, 159, 17-16, for the mixed doubles title.

Alcala bagged the girls’ singles title over Milan, 11-2, 11-1. Alcala and Eunice Patricia Salvador won the doubles title over Cassandra Lim and Selina Concepcion San Diego, 15-2, 15-2.

Alvin Morada dominated the 8-under division.

He won the boys’ singles title over Don Balatbat, 15-2, 15-0, the doubles plum with Vincent Manuel over Gio Angsico and Dino Palenzuela, 17-16, 13-15, 15-13, and the mixed doubles title with Alana Jorge over Neal Joshua Satorre and Joella Geva De Vera, 15-7, 15-12.

Marina Caculitan won the girls singles title over Alyssa Leonardo, 11-3, 11-3. —Jean MALANUM
