Samsung Electronics and BMW Group Research & Technology, demonstrate how media availability on the road can benefit further from the perfect interaction between the latest mobile phone SGH-i300 and innovative automobile technology.
The interaction between a Samsung Smartphone and the BMW iDrive Concept – as was demonstrated by the two brands for the first time just recently at the Munich Media Days. The components: The latest Samsung smartphone SGH-i300 with 3 gigabyte hard-disc storage; a 5-Series BMW with iDrive; WLAN Internet access and a USB interface for mobile phones. And a comprehensive choice of contents such as various top media or a pool of music files.
The SGH-i300 is embedded into the central console of the BMW and inter-operates with the infotainment platform which – like the complete vehicle system – is controlled by iDrive. Accessing the 3 gigabyte memory of the mobile phone, the user can transfer music and video files or photos via USB between the mobile and the vehicle system without any problem. The iDrive interface even shows the title and artists. And communication with the outside world functions as well: With Bluetooth, the driver can carry out mobile phone calls using the automobile’s playback system.
Just this year, Samsung had already carried out a successful demonstration with the Ingolstadt automobile constructors Audi where audio and video files were transferred via A2DP and Bluetooth from a mobile phone to an automobile’s playback system.
