Riding in the current Korean wave of regional hits, Sky Film will soon release "April Snow" in the Philippines and has good reasons to expect a splashing success.
"April Snow" teams up for the very first time Bae Yong–Joon of "Winter Sonata" and Son Ye–jin, Korea’s queen of melodrama. Both are young, good–looking, multi–talented and multi–awarded actors who have gain popularity throughout Asia.
It is directed by Hur Jin–ho, who has so far only made two feature films prior to "April Snow" but both won acclaim in various Korean and international festivals. In "Christmas in August," Hur presented the nervous excitement that comes from love. In "One Fine spring," he delicately showed the process of a love that seemed eternal and gradually changing. This time around, he captures the lyricism of affairs and reinforces his reputations as a director with unique views and deep insights on love.
The situation in "April Snow" as Hur puts it, "is something that can happen in real life. It shows that the confusion and fury from the utterly unexpected can completely ruin a person. Though they trusted, they were betrayed and felt angry. And as they love again, they are able to understand and forgive. "April Snow" is ultimately a film about irony."
"April Snow" is the story of two strangers brought together by their spouses’ tragic car accident. They meet for the first time at the hospital and soon realize that his wife and her husband had an affair. Their shared pain, confusion and anger bring them closer; comfort in each other’s arms revives hope and understanding; then just when it was thought to be inconceivable, love blooms. What happens when their spouses out of their coma?
The spectrum of emotion that the characters go through in the film can be summed up in one of Son Ye–jin’s memorable lines, "At first, I wondered how they’d met. I wished that they’d just die. But now, I think it must’ve been hard for them, too."
"April Snow" is one of the most anticipated films in Asia and will be the first Korean film in history to be released at the same time in about 10 countries.
