HANOI — Frankie Miñoza shot a closing round two-under-par 70 Sunday and settled for third place in the Carlsberg Masters Vietnam Open.
Miñoza, who shared the halfway lead, had four-day total of 284, four-under-par at the Chin Lin Star Golf and Country Club course, to emerge as the top Filipino finisher in the tournament won last year by Angelo Que.
Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant, the Asian Tour leader, won the title after a final round 71 giving hm a total of 281, three strokes ahead of Miñoza.
Second place was Chris Rodgers of England who had 283-73.
Gerald Rosales also shot a 70 and tied for 15th place while Cookie Lao shared 25th spot at 294 with his closing round of 294.
Carito Villaroman tied for 37th place after a 75. His four round total was 297.
Que failed to make the cut in a disappointing defense of his first international title.
Miñoza had six birdies in his round, four in the back nine where he shot a 32. His front nine was a mixed bag. He birdied two holes (2 and 7) but bogeyed the third, fourth, sixth and 8th holes.
Still, his best finish of the year in the Asian Tour, assured him of a card for the coming season. He was 30th before this tournament and would likely finish better than this spot.
The top 30 in the Order of Merit gets a card.
That will not be the case for Rosales (76), Danny Zarate (120), Cassius Casas (130), Jerome Delariarte (135) and Cookie Lao (139).
Que, having won the title here last year, has a two-year exemption.
