A Sweet Stop Over in Pampanga

Vacationing can sometimes be too tiring for our palate. Mini breaks are needed from the ho-hum usual restaurants to recharge our tastes. Dessert usually does the trick! Trying new things wouldn’t hurt.

Ala Crème, a dessert station in Angeles City and San Fernando, Pampanga is the new thing to hit Pampango land. The menu highlights dessert as its specialty ranging from cakes to crepes to ice cream. Their place in Angeles City was full at 9pm with people having main meals, frappuccinos, cakes and ice cream. For Capampangans, the prices are above middle and quite steep compared to their counterparts (Php60-150 for dessert). Plus, the locals prefer dining home.

Ala Crème could be your stopover on the way to Clark or Subic or Baguio. Their Angeles City branch located at the McArthur Highway (Clark bound) is the it-place of students in the day and dating couples and families at night. Kick up your adrenaline with their Banana Split, Mango Loco Crepe, Black Forest Cake or their house specialty, Sinful Chocolate Cake. Seeing around 3 people eating the Sinful Chocolate Cake, and having a chocolate sweet tooth, I ordered it first. I have to agree that I in fact sinned. The cake was flourless and filled with nuts and a brownie-like triple layer from top, middle and bottom. It even had a chocolate leaf big enough to cover the entire height and slice! I vowed that I won’t eat chocolate for at least the next day. The first teaspoon was so sweet I had to wash away the taste with half a glass of water. The succeeding ones are better. My taste buds grew accustomed to the sweet, sweet, sweet in-betweens. I love the brownie layers though. They were soft and chewy with the nuts complementing the taste of sugar in chocolate.

The big surprise was the Banana Split. They three scoops of ice cream (you can choose from strawberry, chocolate and vanilla) were humongous even ice cream lovers will faint. The banana was small though. At least they should make it proportion to the big scoops of ice cream. And maybe add some decors like the nuts, cherries and dollops of whipped cream. This one only had the whipped cream with a roundup of strawberry syrup. Sweeten it up a little with some delicious decors.

The Black Forest cake was quite the treat. It was a sugar-relaxing break from all the hyped up sweetness. The light chocolate chiffon cake was smothered with creamy icing. The choco bits and cherry slices on top are like your salt and pepper to taste. Great with a cup of Café Mocha.

The crepes are freshly made from the crepe station. Unlike the popular crepe restaurants, their station was not that big. The crepe though was perfect. The batter mix could give the crepe giants run for their money. The ingredients though need some boost. It helps to do competitor checks.

The place was very Christmasy already. The snowman collection was a treat. The bathrooms are well-maintained and the staff fast and courteous. Kids will love the place with the decors, the soft seats and the Kiddie Menu. Parking is not a problem. Check it out!
