It all started with a group of friends bonded by their love for theatre and arts.

They’re not your usual school band. Composed of 50 highly dynamic NCeans, the Naga College Foundation Concert and Marching band has been the pride of the school since its inception in 1949. The band was organized by the school founder, Dr. Melchor T. Villanueva along with Marcial Parma, Sr. and Jose Relativo, Sr.

To theater lovers, the stage is a home in itself. To breathe in backstage work —while another world starts turning in front of the audience—to say your lines under the heat of the lights as if they were your own, to stand before a live audience and perform as if it were your last performance—what a thrill! It has certainly been my second home.

I was only 18 years old when I first left for the land Down Under. It was the first time I was leaving my family and I knew it was going to be one of my life’s most important journeys. When I arrived in Sydney, I noticed that there were a lot of Filipinos as well as other nationalities. I found that people in Australia were really friendly and very hospitable. I did not find it hard to fit into Australian society at all because of its multiculturalism.

In celebration of its 100th anniversary, the UP College of Medicine has put together Siyento, the UPCM Centennial Commemorative Book that denotes the college’s first 100 years, its rich heritage and history. Siyento encompasses the theme of the celebration— heritage, healing, humanity and heroism.
