THE FUJITSU LIFEBOOK C1211D LAPTOP NOTEBOOK
Versatile and mobile for casual and business users

Whenever this writer pays a visit at Eastwood City in Libis and Greenbelt in Makati, he can’t help but notice several people doing something on their laptops. Be it closing a business deal or surfing the Internet or just watching their favorite DVD movie, the laptop has became a handy tool for people on-the-go.

Although there are a lot of laptops to choose from, it still depends on the user who has specific requirements what laptop he or she would buy.

Japan-based company Fujitsu, the world's third-largest IT services provider and Japan's market leader, has introduced their latest addition in the LifeBook Series laptops notebook. The LifeBook C1211D All-Purpose Notebook.

At first impression, one may find the black gray color somewhat classic, but looks can deceive the eyes. Included among the elite LifeBook C Series Notebooks, the C1211D is pack with features that fits well for casuals and professional people.

When it came to Technews for review, we were astounded by its weight of 3.24 kilograms we find it to be a little bit heavy. But when one gets used to carrying the C1211D around, it’s easy. The notebook has a dimensions of 333mm x 285mm x 35.2mm (W x D x H).

The C1211D is equipped with an Intel Pentium M processor 1.60 GHz, and the unit has already an installed Microsoft Windows XP operating system (OS). Upon opening the laptop notebook, we saw a 15-inch SuperFine XGA TFT color LCD display screen that has a minimum screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels and up to a maximum of 1024 x 768 pixels.

The power on button is on the right top side of the laptop that also allows the user to suspend notebook activity without turning off the power and it is also used to resume from suspend mode.

The C1211D’s functional 84-key keyboard is quite sensitive at light touch, and can handle even the heaviest of typists. What’s more, the touchpad is almost sensitive to light touch, too, that using the display cursor is smooth as a feather.

The notebook also has exterior features that can be found at the back of the C1211D that includes a modem (RJ-11) port for 56K connection, LAN (RJ-45) port for local area network connection at the office, serial port, PS/2 keyboard/mouse port, parallel port, external VGA port for connection to a monitor, and three Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports. The C1211D has a card slot for PC Card Type I/II (2) or Type III (1) that is located on the right side, for wireless connections.

The C1211D has a status indicator LCD on the left top side of the notebook for a user to know if the battery is already at full charge or already low. Aside from this, a user can also know when AC adapter is connected, when you’re accessing the optical drive and disk drive, when the caps lock, num lock, scroll lock is on, and when a PC card slot is inserted.

This Fujitsu notebook has an integrated Intel Extreme Graphics 2 with Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) that gives the C1211D low-power, high-performance 2D/3D graphics, video, and display capabilities at a maximum shared memory of 64MB. Adding to that, the notebook has a DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive wherein you can burn important data and files directly and also watch your favorite DVD movies on the notebook if you want to kill time. You got to thank this notebook for having a 256MB memory and a 40GB hard disk space (with optional upgrade to 60GB). Take note that the hard disk drive is equipped with Ultra DMA/100 and S.M.A.R.T. support for data protection.

The C1211D has Realtek ALC203 AC97 codec audio software with built-in dual Stereo Speakers that makes watching movie trailers and watching DVD in full stereo. The sound on the speakers can be heard clearly and it’s somewhat just an option to use a headphone for your listening pleasure. But, a user has to bring one especially if you’re sipping your favorite coffee at Starbucks or Seattle’s Best.

We installed a Canon PIXMA MP500 Photo AIO printer, a Logitech V200 Cordless Notebook Mouse, and a Sierra Wireless AirCard for GSM/GPRS/EDGE connection, we found the C1211D a good replacement for those big bulky desktops on your workplace desk. More so, it can easily connect through Wi-Fi Internet access. Minimalist? Well, in a manner.

For laptop notebook buyers, the C1211D package has bundled software that include CyberLink PowerDVD, Sonic RecordNow DX, Sonic DLA, Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0, Fujitsu Hardware Diagnostic Tool, Norman Virus Control, and Norman Personal Firewall.

And by the way, the C1211D is powered by a standard Li-Ion 2000mAH battery that lasted almost 2 hours at maximum use. A C1211D user has an option to avail a much longer Li-Ion 4800mAH battery that can last for 5 hours for presentations to their business clients.

Gotta tell, the Fujitsu LifeBook C1211D Notebook is an all-around, multi-purpose notebook that’s versatile, configurable and has a somewhat professional looks and appeal. Although it has one shortcoming, not having a card reader for those common memory cards, the C1211D still packs a punch for the road warrior and yuppies around.
