In 1906, the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing, Germany, led by Mother Birgitta Korff, OSB, responded to the plea for help signaled by the Papal Legate in the Philippines, Dom Ambrosius Agius, OSB. Five sisters were appointed for the mission of bringing God’s word to the Philippines.


The Philippines’ first woman president, the first woman Supreme Court justice, the first woman commercial pilot, and the first Filipina Ms. Universe–what do they have in common with Chona Recto-Kasten, Clarissa Grey-Ocampo, Tina Monzon-Palma, the Hontiveros sisters, Kitchie Nadal, Anita Magsaysay-Ho, Pia Guanio, Toni Leviste, Dean Lucresia Kasilag, Naty Krame-Rogers, Josie Trinidad-Lichauco, Josephine del Gallego-Knox, and Josephine Murphy-Cojuangco? They all have the same alma mater, and will thus be called home to St. Scho as St. Scholastica’s College (SSC) approaches its centenary in 2006.
