11 bridges in Batangas found weak, deteriorated

Implementing a directive of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr. to inspect all bridges, flyovers and similar infrastructure nationwide in a bid to ensure public safety in case earthquake occurs, the DPWH Region IV-A Office identified 11 national bridges on the Palico-Balayan-Batangas City Road as weak and in deteriorated condition.

In his report to Secretary Ebdane, Region IV-A Director Bonifacio Seguit said that due to the present condition of these bridges, DPWH reduced the load-limit capacity to 10 tons and installed warning signs to inform all motorists.

Among the bridges identified with deteriorated condition are the Cayponce and Bagong Tubig Bridge in Balayan, Dacanlao and Cawong Bridge in Calaca, Talisay Bridge in Calatagan, Calawang Bridge in Lemery, Balibago and Bagbag Bridge in Lian, Palico Bridge in Nasugbu and Cacawan and Munting Tubig Bridge in Tuy, all located in the Province of Batangas.
