The renowned San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra and the San Miguel Chorale will perform some of the best loved Christmas songs from the Philippines at the mall’s Lounge Area today, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.; and on Dec. 10 and 11 at 5 p.m.
As produced, arranged, and conducted by the contemporary man of Philippine music, Ryan Cayabyab, the performance will feature carols from the group’s two volumes of the Philippine Christmas Music.
The first volume features whimsical and folksy homegrown holiday hits: "Kampana sa Simbahan," "Heto na Naman," "Namamasko," "Tuloy na Tuloy Pa Rin ang Pasko," "Sa Paskong Darating," "Maligayang Pasko at Manigong Bagong Taon," "Kumukutikutitap," "Mano po Ninong, Mano po Ninang," "Noche Buena Heto Na Naman ang Pasko," "Maligayang Pasko," and "Pasko Nanaman."
Songs from Volume II, on the other hand, range from the poignant to the exuberant: "Ngayong Pasko," "Pasko na Sinta Ko," "Paskong Walang Hanggan," "Himig Pasko," "Miss Kita Kung Christmas," "Isang Taong Lumipas," "Ang Aking Panalangin," ‘Ang Mahalin Ka," "Anong Gagawin Mo Ngayong Pasko," "Ang Naaalala Ko," "Munting Sanggol," "Ang Payapang Daigdig."
The San Miguel Music Festival at The Podium is presented by The Podium and San Miguel Foundation for the Performing Arts in cooperation with Magnolia Gold Edam Cheese, Grandeur, Purefoods, ETC Entertainment Channel, Jam 88.3, and Wave 89.1.
The mall’s young and socially aware customers, on other hand, can rock and do their share in creating awareness to alleviate poverty in Rock-Ed Philippines’ The Human Rights Now! Benefit Concert and Party on Sat., Dec. 10 in The Podium’s Chill Area.
A joint project of The Podium, NU 107, and the United Nations Development Program, the event will held in line with Human Rights Day. Spearheaded by the Rock Ed volunteer group, it aims to create awareness of poverty, and other issues like gender equality, HIV/Aids, environmental sustainability among the youth. Wearing a white band for Rock End symbolizes the wearer’s belief that poverty should end now.
Rock Ed hopes to bring across its messages through the performances of some of the country’s hottest bands. These include Orange and Lemons, the Dawn, Menaya, and Sponge Cola.
Other new generation bands that will be performing include Urban Dub, Dicta License, The Late Isabel, Pedicap, Up Dharma Down, Juan Pablo Dream, Noel Cabangon, Itchy Worms, and The Bitter Pill.
