"CA is a changed company," Swainson said. "But it is not an entirely new company. We’ve taken the strengths of the past and combined them with new initiatives, strategies and ideas to ensure that CA is the clear industry leader in meeting the evolving information technology needs of customers."
"Those needs," the CA top honcho said, "include a simpler, more effective way for CA customers to manage their IT infrastructures delivered by a variety of integrated and modular options to make the vision practical."
Calling this new CA’s vision for transforming the management of IT infrastructure as Enterprise Information Technology Management or EITM, Swainson explains that EITM aims to unify and simplify the management of IT enterprise-wide, through the use of products based on a common integrated, automated and secure platform.
He said that EITM will allow enterprises to align IT resources with the business needs of the organization and create an efficient, effective and secure infrastructure. This allows organizations to better manage risk, improve service, manage costs and truly align IT with business needs.
"CA’s approach will provide true visibility into the enterprise and offers organizations an unprecedented level of command over their IT environments," Swainson said, a former IBM software executive who took over the reigns of the Islandia-New York-based company almost a year ago after an accounting scandal wiped out most of CA’s management team.
He said that recognizing the benefits of EITM requires a change from a reaction-driven approach to one that is comprehensive, integrated, process-centric and place all events and decisions in the context of what’s the best for the customer’s business.
"Only a company with CA’s experience in developing industrial-strength software for the enterprise can make EITM a reality for its customers," Swainson said.. "We offer the most comprehensive, vendor-neutral, integrated and modular IT management solutions for the enterprise — solutions that are based on proven processes and successful implementations," he added.
He likens CA’s job to that of being able to understand how to manage every aspect of their customer’s IT environment, from legacy systems to the newest environments. EITM, Swainson believes, will help customers tie together all their IT resources in a way that makes them manageable and secure.
To deliver on this vision, Swainson said CA will introduce 26 new EITM-enabled solutions including releases in its enterprise services management, business services optimization and security management business units. In total, CA will have more than 85 products that use some aspect of EITM.
Meanwhile, the CA CEO also briefly laid out the steps the company has taken over the past year towards its goal of being the industry’s leading management software company. Swainson said the CA has assembled a new management team composed of experienced industry leaders; put programs in place to significantly strengthen its relationships with customers and partners; realigned the business to bring more focus on its growth opportunities in the areas of systems, security and storage management for the enterprise; invested in its growth initiatives, including making a number of key acquisitions; and the launch of a new brand identity.
