Telecoms firm assures hassle-free Xmas services

In response to the request of Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC) Secretary Leandro Mendoza for telecommunications companies to ensure a hassle-free connection this Christmas, giant telecoms firm Smart Communications Inc. has assured its more than 20.8 million subscribers that they will have a clear and fast connection with their loved ones, particularly on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Smart head of public relations Ramon Isberto said their subscribers can expect a "clear, fast, and reliable connection" during such times when networks are expected to be flooded with calls and text messages whether domestic or international bound, coming from people who want to greet their loved ones.

Isberto said that this early, they are already doubling their efforts in checking their network and their computers as well as their satellites and towers.

"We were able to handle this problem in the past and we are prepared, we have put on the necessary precautions in place especially on the eve of Christmas and New Year," he said.

He added that during holidays, Smart ensures that their systems are updated and are running in their best condition by deploying a 24-hour maintenance team to man service areas. Also, Smart has beefed up its 24-hour callin service *888 to assist subscribers, Isberto added.

Mendoza had earlier ordered the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to remind telephone firms to ensure that there will be no line congestion that will happen during Christmas just like in the past.

"Communication between loved ones is very important, especially during the holidays. This early, telecom companies should prepare for the expected huge capacity of text and calls, be it cellular phones or landlines. They owe it to their customers. People pay money for good service so this should be given to them," Mendoza said.
