Children who frequently eat out score worse on mea sures of cardiovascular disease risk than those who eat more meals at home, researchers reported at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2005.


Dr. Greg David V. Dayrit, a neurologist-internist at St. Luke’s Medical Center, and Dr. Vincent Paul de Guzman, last year’s stroke fellow graduate, won the top two prizes in the recently concluded Stroke Society of the Philippines’ 4th Stroke Research Contest, held at Fort Ilocandia in Laoag City.


A high percentage of Filipino children are underweight or stunted, placing them at a higher risk for death. This is one of the alarming results of a 2003 survey undertaken by the NFRI. Children under five years old account for six million of the country’s population.
