The Plextor PX-608U is a portable DVD recorder drive that comes in a silver design. The company claims that it's one of the slimmest and lightest drives available on the market.
As well as extending Plextor's optical product line of external DVD writers, the PX-608U complements Plextor's latest range of silver portable hard disk drives.
The high performance PX-608U is not only compact, measuring just 22.2mm thick, but it offers double layer DVD+/- writing, multi-format DVD-RAM capability and high-speed USB 2.0 data transfer. It is capable of the following DVD speeds: 4x DVD+/-R DL; 8x DVD+/-R; 8x DVD+RW; 6x DVD-RW and 5x DVD-RAM. The drive has a 2MB buffer.
Also available from Plextor is its new 16x DVD+R media. In line with Plextor's high-quality and high reliability standards, the discs are manufactured for Plextor by Taiyo Yuden, one of the industry's leading and best known media companies. Plextor 16x DVD+R media is available in 25x and 50x spindle packs.
Compatible DVD formats include DVD-RAM (ver. 2.0/2.1), DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, Multi-Border, Multisession, DVD+VR, DVD-VR (Read-Only), DVD-R, DVD-R DL, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVD+RW. Supported CD formats include CD-DA, CD-ROM Mode-1, CD-ROM XA Mode-2 (form 1/2), CD-Extra, Photo-CD, Video-CD, CD TEXT, and Mixed CD.
Included buffer underrun proof technologies offer a solution to prevent writing failures during the burning process for CD and DVD by pausing the burn if the data to the drive write buffer is slowed or stopped. The drive resumes the burn process after the drive write buffer is refilled.
