EMC recently announced the availability of new solution packages for the small and mid-sized businesses (SMB) segment. The package includes consolidation, back-up recovery, information protection, email management, content archiving and database management.

All solutions packages are bundled with EMC CLARiiON CX networked storage systems and various software offerings including Networker backup software, EmailExtender email archiving software, MirrorView remote replication software, ApplicationXtender fixed content management software and VMware server virtualization software.

Cisco Systems Strengthens SMB Commitment
Responding to the need for smart, simple and secure network solutions specifically designed for small and medium businesses (SMBs), Cisco Systems introduces the Cisco Business Communications Solution featuring a tailored family of products, services and support options to help businesses control costs, improve operational efficiencies and gain a sustainable competitive advantage.

The Cisco Business Communications Solution will be offered as part of the new Cisco SMB Class solutions, which bring enterprise technologies in voice, routing, switching, security and wireless to SMBs that are affordable and easy to deploy. 

Cisco also announced the new Cisco Catalyst Express 500 Series switching family and additions to its IP Communications portfolio, including new IP Communications applications and an expanded line of XML-enabled IP.

Sun Microsystems Offers More Free Software
Sun Microsystems said it will make its Java Enterprise System set of server middleware, Java development tools and N1 management software available for free with no deployment or licensing costs, as the company seeks to earn the loyalty of developers who can encourage the market to adopt more Sun products.  The software products will also be integrated into Sun's Solaris operating system.

Internet Explorer Flaw Puts Google Desktop at Risk
Israeli hacker Matan Gillon has discovered and published a vulnerability in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser that puts users of Google Desktop at risk even if the user is running a fully patched system.  The flaw involves a problem with the way IE imports cascading style sheets (CSS) from other Web sites, a technique referred to as cross site scripting (XSS).  By combining the flaw with Google's Desktop Search, a malicious website could read personal data off a visitor's machine.  Microsoft has admitted that the flaw exists and said it may issue a security advisory or provide an update through its monthly patch release process to fix the problem.

Podjacking the Podcasters
Podcaster Erik Marcus who runs Vegan.com and hosts the "Erik's Diner" podcast recently had his RSS feed redirected to podkeyword.com, and the hijacker is demanding payment to release the podcast.  Apple's iTunes service was also linked to the Podkeyword URL with Erik's Diner podcasts.  Erik lost 75% of his readership to the RSS hijacker.
