Four years later, the Ateneo Law School produced its first bar topnotcher.
Today, several decades and bar topnotchers after, the Ateneo Law School remains unwavering to its commitment of establishing a Christian presence in the legal world. Thus, its 70th anniversary carries the theme "70 Years of Legal Excellence" to extol what Ateneo Law School has achieved, the contributions it has given Philippine society especially to the underprivileged, and what it further envisions – its dreams and aspirations for the nation.
In line with the celebration, the students of the Ateneo Law School will launch several activities to support the 70th anniversary. Last month, a photo exhibit showcasing the humble beginnings of the Ateneo Law School in Ermita, Manila to its present structure in Rockwell was mounted. It featured how the law school has changed and grown throughout the years. A mock debate organized by St. Thomas Moore debating team was also held to highlight the debating prowess of the students especially those who won the 2004 Jessup Cup World Champion besting more than 50 teams worldwide.
This month, the law school will stage a variety show that will be participated in by the different student organizations to celebrate the yuletide season.
With a deepening Christian commitment to the society, the Environmental Law Society of the Ateneo Law School will be planting 70 trees in La Mesa Ecopark in January to commemorate the school’s fruitful years of legal practice. Each tree will be named after an exemplary alumnus of the law school. On the same month, the law school’s publication The Palladium will also launch an essay writing contest that will put the 70th anniversary into the limelight.
February will be another month to look forward to especially for talented lawyers-to-be as another variety show called "That 70s Show" will be presented. An alternative class program that will widen the expertise of the students will also take place.
The Ateneo Law Journal will have a special edition in March and it will be dedicated to the momentous 70th anniversary of the law school.
The months of April and May will be a busy one for the Bar examinations and the Freshman Orientation Program.
In June, a formal dinner-charity fund raising is calendared.
As an academic Jesuit institution, the Ateneo Law School is currently focusing on its strengths, legal traditions and competence to allow the law school, its students and graduates, to be leaders in addressing the demands of the Philippine community. Thus, this 70th anniversary, the law school will initiate a capital fund campaign that is strongly linked to the school’s mission to train men and women to be God’s best legal minds and most effective advocates in society.
The funds will go to the following projects: "Service to the Filipino" Scholarship and Professorial Chair Fund, law library support fund, human rights capital fund, Ateneo Free Legal Services Fund, and the alumni and continuing legal studies center.
