Philips, the technology, healthcare and lifestyle company, recently conferred the company’s most promising invention awards to two Filipino students at the recently concluded National Inventors Week.
Johann Philip Ignacio of the MSU Integrated School of Technology, and Mark Anthony Caga-anan of UP Los Baños, were cited by Philips for being catalysts of change and national pride in their pursuit of new ideas and inventions.
Ignacio was awarded in the high school category for his project on the "Utilization of Sound Cards as Analogue to Digital Converters for a PC-based Water Level Monitoring and Control System," while Caga-anan was awarded for his project on "PC and Micro-Controller Based Remote Controlled Exploring Automated Guided Vehicle" in the college category.
In a speech before the country’s inventors at the DoST-led inventors week, Med Mateo, president and CEO of Philips Group of Companies in the Philippines, told the inventors that the country counts on them in inspiring other Filipinos to do better.
"Innovations that focus on improving the quality of life of our people are so much desired today. The projects of our young inventors are not only breakthroughs in themselves but also a source of pride for all of us. We have every reason to believe that the Filipino inventor is at par with Asia’s best," Mateo said.
Philips’ support to young Filipino inventors is now on its third year. Its continuous pursuit to develop, manufacture and market technology, healthcare and lifestyle products that improve people’s’ lives is the driving force behind the Philips Most Promising Invention Awards.
