The enchanting story of "Mulan," first popularized in the hit Disney movie of the same title, comes back to life in acrobatic and magical art form in a special Christmas presentation billed as "Hua Mulan Fantasy Magical Journey," to be staged on Dec. 23-Jan. 2 at Aliw Theater, Star City, CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
The 11-day holiday treat from Solar Entertainment Corp. brings for the first time to the local entertainment scene an exciting, wholesome and funfilled acrobatic musical performance that celebrates honor, courage and the importance of the family as interpreted through a variety of authentic magical acts and acrobatic stunts.
It will showcase a unique fusion of fantasy and magic as it narrates the compelling tale of Mulan, a Chinese maiden who went to war disguised as a man in place of her old father who was being conscripted into the army to fight in battle against foreign invaders.
With Mulan, her father, her younger brother and the villagers as main characters, the one-hour presentation will take the audience to an exhilarating journey to the realm of the fantastic and the magical through a slew of acrobatic skills, death-defying acts, daredevil stunts, sleights-of-hand, martial arts, and song-and-dance repertoire.
In five scintillating scenes, the acrobatic show traces the heroic saga of Mulan through artistic displays of authentic feats of acrobatics, stage battles, dance, drama and beautiful music.
The performance will also leave the audience awe-struck with its numerous action scenes involving the use of such instruments and tools as diabolos, straw hat, flower pots, meteor, wushu sword, kicking plates and lasso tricks.
They will marvel in disbelief at such attractions as "wheels in action," "balancing the plates," "swallowing the sword," "cutting the body," and "levitation act," among many other numbers.
Behind these awesome acrobatic feats is a 30-man star-studded cast from the renowned Hebei Acrobatic Circus Troupe from the Chinese province of Hebei and which boasts of an array of brilliant and accomplished acrobats, magicians, gymnasts, stuntmen, pugilists, thespians, singers and dancers who have won international acclaim for their acrobatic and magical skills.
With its spectacular sets, fabulous lighting and beautiful music, many consider "Hua Mulan Fantasy Magical Journey" just as big, if not bigger, in mass appeal and impact as the movie version that could make it the ultimate in family entertainment during the Christmas holiday season.
Tickets for the show are available at Ticketnet outlets at SM Supermalls and SM Department Stores and Araneta Coliseum ticket booths.
