2005 Philippine Webbies winners celebrate victory
3 Web sites bag double wins at Webbies

   

Three Web sites scored double wins, bagging both Best Web Site and People’s Choice awards in their respective categories, at the 8th Philippine Web Awards held last week at the Meralco Theater. These were Fine and Dandy (2005.jeffmendoza.com) for the Arts & Portfolio category; Kaanib Portal (www.kaanib.net) for the Community and Portal category; and Unionbankph.com (www.unionbankph.com) for the Banking and Finance category.

The festive Webbies’ Awards Night was attended by the local Web community’s key players — developers, site owners, and enthusiasts including House of Representative ICT chairman Congressman Simeon Kintanar and Commission on Information and Communications Technology commissioner Dondi Mapa who presented the trophies and cash awards to the winners.

The first three inductees into the Webbies Hall of Fame were also announced: ClickTheCity.com (www.clickthecity.com); PhilMusic.com (www.philmusic.com); and UP Mountaineers (www.upmountaineers.org.ph). To enter the Hall of Fame, a Web site should win the Best Web Site award, at least, five times and must show sustained excellence in design, content, usability, and functionality over the years.

The other winners of the Best Web Site awards were: Parokya ni Edgar - www.parokyaband.com (Celebrities & Personalities); Anvaya Cove - www.anvayacove.com, (Corporate); VMV Hypoallergenics - www.vmvhypoallergenics.com (E-Commerce); DCI - www.dci.ph (E-Government); Jam 88.3 - www.jam883.fm (Entertainment); i.ph - www.i.ph (E-Services); The Wedding Library - www.weddinglibrary.com.ph (Home & Living); Illustrador ng Kabataan - www.ink.group.ph (Organizations); Histrionics of a Balding Drama King - blog.illenberger.org (Personal); De La Salle University-Dasmariñas - www.dasma.dlsu.edu.ph (Schools); and HolyHolyCow Animation - www.holycowanimation.com (SMEs).

Meanwhile, the other winners of the People’s Choice Awards (these were the sites that garnered the most votes via SMS and the Internet) were: Danielrazon.com – www.danielrazon.com (Celebrities and Personalities); Ayala Land International Sales, Inc. – www.atayala.com (Corporate); Bidshot – www.bidshot.com (e-Commerce); Government Service Insurance System Website – www.gsis.gov.ph (E-Government); UNTV-37 – www.untvweb.com (Entertainment); Crushcow.com – www.crushcow.com (eServices); WeddingsAtWork.com – the online guide on Filipino Weddings – www.weddingsatwork.com (Home and Living); www.angdatingdaan.org – www.angdatingdaan.org (Organizations); Boom Salvador – www.brothahood.org/boom (Personal); Don Bosco Technical College – www.dbtc.edu.ph (Schools); Dragon Fireworks Inc. – www.dragonfireworks.com (SMEs).

Newcomer www.anvayacove.com bagged the Best Website plum in the Corporate category. "This is the Web site of Ayala Land Inc.’s (ALI) first foray into the leisure sector, Anvaya Cove, which was inaugurated only last July," said ALI corporate business group vice president for the Leisure & Lifestyle Communities Group Marivic E. Anoñuevo.

"We joined this contest for publicity. We weren’t expecting to win," said Randy Nivales ofwww.i.ph, winner of the E-e-Services category. "This will bring us respect from other Web designers and developers."

"We were also part of last year’s Philippine Web Awards. A lot of the competitors are really good. I guess this time, the revisions we did on the site worked," said Kaanib Portal’s Jerex Lllaguno.
