CHICAGO, Illinois – The pretrial of superstar Nora Aunor starts tomorrow in Los Angeles, California.
Aunor was arrested last March 30 at the Los Angeles International Airport when she was allegedly found in possession of methamphetamine substance or "shabu" weighing 7.7 grams hidden in a film container inside her carryon bag. A glass pipe used for inhaling "shabu" was also found wrapped in a T-shirt she was carrying.
Judge James Brandlin of Department A will start the pretrial of Miss Aunor, whose real name is Nora C. Villamayor, at 8:30 a.m. at the Superior Court of Los Angeles in California.
The law offices of Sherwin C. Edelberg and Claire Navarro Espina retained by Miss Aunor said Friday that the actress will be in court even if it is a pretrial.
Los Angeles District Attorney Marguerite F. Rizzo said she does not know if Aunor is required to attend the pretrial.
Under California law, a felony pretrial conference is usually set two or three weeks after the arraignment. At this hearing, the defendant and his/her attorney will have the opportunity to negotiate a settlement of the case. If the case does not settle at the pretrial conference stage, the matter will be set for jury trial.
If the case is not settled on Monday, the jury trial starts on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
Rizzo said the jury trial of the case may last for about 10 days. If found guilty of committing the felony, Aunor faces a minimum of probation and rehabilitation to a maximum of three years imprisonment, Rizzo said.
The actress is out on a $10,000 bail.
