Greenville College
Developing man’s potential for ultimate service to God and humanity

Education and friendship were the keys that opened the door of GREENVILLE COLLEGE. In the Seventies, 10 educators, who, some of them taught in the United States for almost 25 years, bought 12 lots in Greenpark Village, a subdivision in Pasig. Because of their friendship and their goal of educating the youth, they decided to start a school and in no time, they attended the groundbreaking ceremonies on September 29, 1986.

Greenville College is located at
112 Belfast Street, Greenpark
Village, Manggahan, Pasig City.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

In 1987, "The Development Education Center" was incorporated with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Greenville School was born. A one-story building was built in one end of the land to house the very first enrollees, 18 kindergarten kids. Later, the enrolment increased by 200 percent, which encouraged the administration to offer complete elementary and secondary levels of education.

Recognition for basic education was granted on July 13, 1992 together with a permit to offer other courses. Sooner, Greenville School became Greenville College.

Greenville College does very little promotion but in spite of this, public and private school teachers and government employees heard about its existence and they requested that graduate studies courses be offered. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) granted the permit and recognition to offer MBA, MPA, DPA and MA in Education. The enrolment in these courses is amazing.

With the continuous support of CHED, the then Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS), and the community, Greenville College will surely continue in achieving its mission of developing to the optimum man’s potentials for ultimate service to God and humanity, with the commitment to achieve their goals: providing quality education in all levels through a competent faculty, adequate facilities, and substantial resources relevant to national goals; establishing and maintaining an expansive program for the sciences, technology, and the humanities through a system of facilities improvement, continuing professional education for faculty, and curriculum enrichment. Promoting research advocacy for both institutional and faculty projects, in the various disciplines, for data on the different aspects of educational management; and integrating all academic and educational efforts towards a vision of empowered leadership in a developing society, anchored on a strong Catholic faith and the traditional spiritual and cultural values of the Filipino.

The High School department of Greenville College is very proud of their students who have joined the DECS regional contests and won first place in on-the-spot essay and poetry writing several times. The civic-minded students are also very concerned about the community. They organized the Interact Club, a subsidiary of the Rotary Club. The activities include helping the needy and improving the community. They are always united and in full force, working together. They planted trees around the school and in other vacant lots in the subdivision, as part of the Clean and Green Campaign. They also went around clearing the school and the community of stagnant water, as participants of the Iwas Dengue Campaign. The high school population is always willing and enthusiastic in all school and community activities.

The Pre-School Department of Greenville College started modernizing its approach in preschool education in June 1999. The school uses the Montessori approach of education. Its classrooms are provided with various materials, which Dr. Maria Montessori called the Prepared Environment. In the Montessori setup, the child is trained to become independent, by letting him work with the various materials in the prepared environment.

The members of the faculty have broad educational background and teaching experiences and are now carrying the torch, which their mentors passed on the next generations, proving to one and all that Greenville College is not just an ordinary institution. It is a school of learning geared towards the education of the youth who will lead the future of our nation. This leadership participation is hoisted to this institution’s inspiring goal of developing man’s potentials for ultimate service to God and humanity.

PRESENT TIMES

Like a young debutante, Greenville College, who turns 18 this year, is one of the finest institutions in the country. Greenville College is a recipient of 13 government recognitions granted by the CHED and DECS. At present, five courses/programs are offered by the Graduate School: Doctor of Education, Doctor in Public Administration; Master of Arts in Education major in Educational Management, Master in Public Administration, and Master in Business Administration.

In the College Department, five Bachelor courses are offered: Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration, Bachelor of Arts in English, Bachelor of Secondary Education, majors in English, Filipino and Math and Bachelor in Elementary Education.

The first government recognition granted to Greenville College was the Kindergarten on December 22, 1987, and in almost two years, a complete elementary course was recognized on September 5, 1989. General Secondary course was granted recognition on July 19, 1992.

One of the major accomplishments of Greenville College is the improvement of the Graduate School in terms of teaching strategy, including research and upgraded equipment and facilities.

From Year 2001-2005 there are 127 graduates in different levels of the graduate program.

Significant growth was registered for the last five years in the doctoral program; as of this year, a total of 65 graduated with the degree in Doctor of Education.

Right now, the main concern of the school management is to improve the physical aspect, including equipment and facilities – foremost of all, the quality of education, particularly the academics. Much that it is desired to improve the entire college program, the effort seems fruitless because of two main reasons: deteriorating economy of the country and the opening state universities and other public institutions add to the dilemma on the financial problems of the school.

It takes a lot of resources and energy combined in attaining the aspirations and objectives of the school.

All these challenges, lower incomes, high expenditures, bank loans and faculty/staff mounting complaints, and come what may, Greenville College will survive strong in its mission towards developing man’s potential for ultimate service to God and humanity.
