Beermen stretch winning run

REDUCED TO a cheap firecracker lately, Danny Seigle exploded last night to lead the San Miguel Beermen past the pace-setting Purefoods Chunkee Giants,74-68, in the San Mig Coffee 2005 PBA Fiesta Conference at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

The player known around the league as "Dynamite" dwarfed the Giants en route to a 23-point performance off the bench. Seigle scored five of his team’s first seven points in the payoff period to give the Beermen a 64-54 lead before taking an extended rest.

When Seigle wasn’t around, the Beermen turned to their defense to sustain the lead.

They held the Giants scoreless in a five-minute stretch as the gap swelled to 70-56.

It was the fourth straight win for the defending champions and fifth in 13 games.

The Giants dropped consecutive games for the first time in the tournament as they fell to 9-5.

"Our old system is working for us. Mas comfortable ang mga players namin pag nanggagaling sa loob ang bola," said Beermen coach Jong Uichico.

Seigle also showed he’s comfortable with his new role.

The prolific wingman was relegated to an off-the-bench role in their past two games as Uichico tried to keep his minutes down after suffering a sprain in a road win over the Red Bull Barako.

Dondon Hontiveros, who took Seigle’s starting spot, delivered the dagger in the homestretch.

His three-pointer with less than two minutes to go prevented the Giants from inflicting more damage and gave the Beermen a 73-62 lead.
