The Philippines is now officially a part of the newest and most powerful communicatio0n revolution in the world.
Microwarehouse Inc. unveiled last November 22 over two dozen of exciting and definitive podcasts from the country’s most influential & prominent movers, experts and purveyors. Twenty-six proudly Filipino-made podcasts, with topics ranging from politics, health, education, food, technology and lifestyle, filled the seventeen rooms in Red Box Karaoke and represented the country’s giant leap into the world of podcasting.
Speaking in front of almost a hundred media who attended the launch of the Philippine Podcasting Channel, Mr. Jun Villanueva, Managing Director of Microwarehouse, said, “It (podcasting) empowers thousands of people everyday, allowing them to create their very own broadcasts from wherever they are, upload it themselves and share them with millions of iTunes and iPod users all over the world.”
Podcasting involves publishing/uploading of audio (and now video) files for download to personal computers to be played to the iPod. “Podcasts are automatically delivered to subscribers, now isn’t that a powerful tool for spreading one’s message across millions of listeners?” Mr. Villanueva enthusiastically exclaimed.
“This is the first time that a collective effort is done to create a podcasting content that the Philippines can be proud of,” Ms. Cynthia Veloria, President of Microwarehouse, said. “The project is intended to showcase local content that can provide a glimpse of Filipino life and culture.” Accordingly, this is also a way of promoting Filipino talent across the world, especially to OFWs who are longing to hear the latest happenings in the country.
Tour of Discovery
An impressive line-up of podcasts awaited the guests who attended the event. After the usual remarks and introductory messages, a symbolic uploading of the podcasts via an audio-visual presentation was witnessed by the media through the plasma TVs in Red Box. Then, hosts Vic Icasas (Musical Director, Audio Designer and Apple Macintosh lover) and Bianca Gonzales (ABS-CBN and Studio 23 TV Host) led the guests through the opening and discovery of the rooms and channels, with the first time “podcasters” awaiting in each room.
Among the personalities who shared their most intimate, sometimes humorous, but definitely noteworthy thoughts included the legendary radio talk show host Eddie Ilarde, artist turned full-time mom Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan, Twisted eminence Jessica Zafra, pop and stage director Freddie Santos, culinary chef Nancy Reyes-Lumen, fitness and health enthusiast Chinggay Andrada, poetry deity Kooky Tuason, marketing specialist and professor Herbert Sansianco, gay rights advocate Danton Remoto, photographer Dominique James and brilliant & bold editor Pam Pastor.
The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), HEIGHTS, Tech magazines mPH, T3, C! & Gamesmaster, Philippine tattler, PhilMUG, podCentral, Manual, Marie Claire, Metro, Fully Booked, HALIKINU radio and Red Box Karaoke also launched their podcasts that day.
