STA. CATALINA COLLEGE (SCC) has carved a place of its own in the history of the Philippines in general and of the Congregation of Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena in particular. The history of the Congregation and that of Sta. Catalina College are synonymous, for this college started when the Beaterio de Sta. Catalina de Manila which was inaugurated on July 26, 1696 in the Walled City of Intramuros under the leadership of Venerable Mother Francisca del Espiritu Santo and Rev. Fr. Juan de Sto. They were given a well-rounded education on the Catholic faith, the 3 R’s and Practical Arts.

Sta. Catalina College (SCC) established the Mother Francisca del Espiritu Santo Extension Service (MOFRADES) Center in 1982 to provide opportunities for students and personnel to practice and actualize the Christian values they have learned and lived in the school community. Through the MOFRADES Center, students, personnel, parents and alumni worked together to find ways and means to answer the call of the under-served and to incarnate the message of Christ in the world.

There’s more to a child’s education than reading, writing, and arithmetic – much more … like strength of character and social skills. SCC Basic Education Department has a character development program, which emphasizes respect, responsibility, honesty, self –discipline, sportsmanship, patience, and kindness from the very start. Teachers, parents, and sisters attest to the fact that it works; the students show significant difference in this area.
