Following a tradition, we’ve listed down a handful of our New Year’s wishes, and included in it those that have been volunteered to us by some well-meaning friends — keen observers and passionate about the local showbusiness.
May this piece serve as an encouragement, and a blessing to most, all in the purpose of looking forward to a brighter, better and wiser 2006.
This is our wish:
• For ABC 5 to claim a higher viewership rating in the overall television scenario because the network truly pioneers original and brilliant concepts for most of their shows.
• For GMA-7 to find ways of giving their televiewers more satisfaction by not inundating their shows with too much commercial loads, in effect endlessly pushing back programming schedules. So much so, that most TV shows now don’t have a fix time of airing. Imagine what disappointment it causes someone who sits by waiting for his favorite show to start?
• For GMA-7 to be able to sustain brilliant and original shows with excellent production and cultural values such as "Encantadia" and "Etheria."
• For ABS-CBN to be able to pioneer a show whose concept originated from their pool of brainstormers.
• For Lea Salonga and Robert Chien: A safe and swift delivery of a healthy and beautiful baby in May, 2006.
• For Gerard Salonga and wife DJ Francisco-Salonga: A visit from the stork soon so that their loving mom would have her hands full taking care of her grandchildren!
• For Boy Abunda to continue to be the saving grace in his talk show ‘The Buzz." He successfully balances the show by being his most sensible self at all times.
• For Martin Nievera to get married next year. May he start working for a life of stability and lasting peace and joy by finding the courage in his heart to give his all for the right girl.
•For Pops Fernandez to be wiser in the ways of love. May she stop being linked from one guy to another because it does not do her image any good at all.
• For Sharon Cuneta to achieve the ideal weight loss that she works so hard for.
• For Aga Muhlach to have more challenging and daring roles in the new year, basically to venture out of his! comfort zone of essaying just romantic leading man roles.
• For Marvin Agustin to win the Best Actor award in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival Awards derby. He worked so hard for his role in "Kutob" and confesses to have rekindled his passion for acting via this vehicle.
• For Kris Aquino to be more prudent about her lovelife and of baring details of her personal life mostly in casual banter in the shows that she appears in. May she rethink the kind of clothes that she wears – for most part looking overdressed in her ball gowns in a game show and a talk show, not to mention the provocative design of her gowns that go with an equally provocative attitude.
• For Regine Velasquez’s lovelife to prosper. May she find her Mr. Right so she can have her own happy ending soon.
• For Ogie Alcasid and his family to be together again, at least physically. It is not good for husbands and wives to be away from each other.
• For Mother Lily Monteverde to be able to convince everyone in the local moviemaking industry that she means what she often says: That she is in the business to help a dying industry. May she achieve this even in the midst of criticisms being hurled at her, i.e. bending and changing the MMFFP rules to suit her design.
•For Toni Gonzaga to deserve the praises that some of her colleagues have been showering on her regarding her competence as a TV host. She has been scoring a lot of lapses in the few times that we’ve seen her host segmens of "Pinoy Big Brother" during its run.
• For Suzi Entrata to have better hosting break in GMA-7. She exudes such a friendly, amiable and cheerful countenance that the televiewers easily warm up to her.
• For Dr. Manny Calayan to stop feeling he needs to defend himself from every accusation or bad press that he hears. May he realize that he is foremostly a doctor of medicine, more than the celebrity that his status has probably been feeding on his brain.
• For Joey de Leon to find more days off so he could write more for the Bulletin. He is so loaded with shows, all toprating we have to say, that we practically see him every single day on TV, and miss his De Leon’s Den columns on print.
• Twenty more years for "Eat Bulaga."
• More deserving beneficiaries for the shows "Wowowee" and "Wish Ko Lang."
• For Ara Mina to lose weight.
• For Pia Guanio to rethink her wardrobe in her shows. May she refrain from wearing too skimpy attires (read: sleeveless blouse and micro mini-skirt in one ‘Eat Bulaga’ episode we saw) even in her entertainment shows. And when she crosses over the news, her wardrobe should follow suit.
• For Claudine Barretto’s life to be a showcase of true forgiveness and sincerity, for a life that is grounded on Christian virtues needed no verbal expositions.
•For Piolo Pascual to continue holding fast to his faith even in the midst of criticisms and trials in his public life.
• For Gary Valenciano to be healthy and free from diabetic attacks. A more vibrant recording career in the new year.
• For some stars to do away with cheap gimmicky and untruthful scenarios which they engage in either to drum up publicity for their movies, concerts, etc. or to favor endorsement contracts they made earlier in their careers.
• For the good old days of showbiz to be back, where artistas are recognized easily and set apart from the rest. Talents are a dime a dozen nowadays that people hardly know half of those they see on TV.
• For the good old days of television hosting to be back. In the olden days, only the best ones are tapped to host, molded in the likes of Eddie Mercado, Ariel Ureta, etc. Sadly now, there is only a handful of good hosts who thrive.
• For all celebrities: May they react as quickly and as passionately to good write-ups, much like what happens when they urgently react to writers who have given them unpleasant write-ups.
• For everyone of us in the media, to be more conscious of the virtue of decency in imparting news, tackling issues and sharing information to the public in the pursuit of their work.
• For everyone to be reminded of the fact that we cannot do anything on our own. Thus, we need to live our lives paying tribute to the One who makes it possible, - our Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ. Happy New Year to all!
