spacer

2005 was a kind and good year for Backroom. The year brought forth many happy occasions. It also saw the blossoming of new talents.

Talents Bianca Gonzalez, Drew Arellano, Mariel Rodriguez, made waves as TV hosts. Bianca and Drew warm up the mornings in "Magandang Umaga Pilipinas," and "Huling Hirit" respectively, while Mariel is now a household name as the "Kapitbahay ni Kuya." Erik Santos, one of Backroom’s biggest finds, is holding up to his title as the "Prince of Pop." He continues to draw crowds at home and in the US. Backroom baby Kim Flores released her debut album "Something at First Sight" under Ivory music. Ai Ai de las Alas is still Comedy Concert Queen. She has "Shake Rattle and Roll, an entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival. K Brosas created a niche both on TV and on stage. They are but some of Backroom talents who continue to make waves in the entertainment business.

To cap the year, Backroom held a thanksgiving and Christmas party at the Marikina Riverbanks Riverbend Hotel Ballroom. Backroom staff became the stars of the night, while the artists took to the sidelines. Awards were given, performances staged, parlor games played and raffle prizes won.

Performances by Backroom staff are always looked forward to. And for the past years, the staff in the spirit of fun and camaraderie, has tried to out-do each other with lavish production numbers. This year, road managers Jonathan Valdez, Jet Valle, Ryan Brusola, Jamie Almario, personal assistants to Boy Abunda, Philip Rojas and Donnie Ravago, Betinna Aspillaga and Lance Sarmiento vied for prizes.

Jet Valle who was last year’s Best Performer, relinquished his crown to Jonathan Valdez, who wowed the crowd with his number. Jonathan dressed as a "blushing bride" swayed and sashayed his way to the grand prize. Jonathan was also the texter’s choice awardee. Second placer Ryan Brusola belly danced to the audience delight. Bettina Aspillaga, teaming up with Lance Sarmiento, clowned as Sam and Say by singing the duo’s hit song, "Magmahal Muli." Jamie Almario, who was also Employee of the Year was third place. Jamie handles Backroom baby Kim Flores, TV host/actress Amy Perez and The Company. As Employee of the Year, Jamie won through secret text voting done by the Backroom staff. More than the cash prize, Jamie was chosen for his "excellent work" for the year. And for the first time, the staff made a symbolic offering of gifts for each other.

As a time to be merry, to renew ties and give well-wishes, friends, supporters as well as talents of Backroom sent in their holiday greetings. Kris Aquino, Gretchen Barretto, Ai Ai de las Alas, Erik Santos, Kim Flores, Kyla, Rufa Mae Quinto, The Company, Ariel Rivera, Amy Perez, Danita Paner, Bianca Gonzalez, Mariel Rodriguez, Drew Arellano, Chase Tinio, K Brosas, K and the Boxers, among others, made each and everyone in Backroom special with their gifts.Ai Ai, Frenchie Dy, Chase Tinio, Amy Perez, The Company, Drew Arellano, Kim Flores, and Erik Santos made their presence felt as they shared their precious time at the Christmas party. Private Conversations "miracle woman" Gigi Javier and Marge Sandoval as well as PCIB’s beautiful lady Eileen Robles joined the occasion.

Bong Quintana, VP and Manager for Special Events, K Brosas and the Boxers took turns as hosts of the affair. More than a company gathering, Backroom’s Christmas party was a family affair. Each staff shared time and effort to make the event a success. Booking manager Rowena Salido as over-all-in-charge, Maryann Sta Ana who took care of the gifts and solicitations, Sandra Santos for the logistics and peripherals.
