A judge from the Pasay City Regional Trial Court, who is reportedly handling the case of the Philippine International Air Terminals Company (PIATCO), was gunned down by two unidentified men on board a motorcycle in Bacoor, Cavite yesterday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Judge Henrick Gingoyon of the Pasay City RTC.
He was declared dead on arrival at the Molino Doctors Clinic also in Bacoor town, reports added.
Gingoyon was initially brought to the Imus Medical Hospital before he was transferred to the Molino Doctors Hospital.
Cavite Police Provincial director Senior Supt. Benjardi Mantele said that the victim was on his way home from a gym workout when he was approached by the gunmen near Soldiers Hills, Molino 4, in Bacoor, Cavite at 12:45 pm.
Without uttering a word, the two men alighted from a blue Honda XRM motorcycle and shot the victim at close range.
Based on initial investigation, Gingoyon suffered at least five bullet wounds in the different parts of the body.
Police reports said Gingoyon is handling the case of the PIATCO deal in connection with the construction of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City.
Director General Arturo C. Lomibao, PNP chief, ordered a massive manhunt operation against the two gunmen.
Airline executives deplore killing of Pasay judge
NAIA -Airline executives who are closely watching the development of the government’s efforts in taking over the NAIA Terminal 3 deplored the gruesome killing of Gingoyon yesterday, saying that it will produce a chilling effect on perception on the Philippines as a nation to do business in.
Members of the Airline Operators Council (AOC), an organization of airline station managers operating at NAIA, said the slay also indicates that the NAIA 3 issue has become a deadly one.
"It’s bad that it happened. It may have dire consequences particularly with regards the NAIA 3 issue. It may mean that there would be more delays in the opening of Terminal 3," an officer of the AOC said.
Gingoyon, who is from the Pasay City Regional Trial Court, inked the ruling that the government should compensate PIATCO properly for expropriating the NAIA Terminal 3.
Gingoyon was killed in an ambush yesterday noon in Cavite. (Anjo Perez and Louie Perez)
