Peace and prosperity to all of us Filipinos, whether Christians or Muslims, as we herald in a new year and bid goodbye to the rather turbulent year that was 2005. This is the time when we make long lists of resolutions for our individual and collective betterment. I have just three wishes, though, for our country which has been bedeviled for too long now by strife, needless bickering, and intramurals.
These are that:
— Big businesses and the captains of our industries would take seriously their social responsibilities to give the people their hard-earned money’s worth. The contractualization of our labor force has to stop since the many evils emanating from this deplorable practice – like lack of job security and benefits – are demoralizing our workforce, leading to reduced productivity and overall economic malaise.
— We would rediscover the meaning of brotherly love and love for country, which would allow us to set aside selfish personal interests for the common good.
— All Filipinos would break free from the destructive mindset that our country is going nowhere, and to take a "yes we can" attitude to cover lost economic grounds.
Happy New Year and may the Lord continue blessing our nation.
