After over ten years of operations in the Philippines, Korean national carrier Asiana Airlines (OZ) has been recognized by Filipino consumers as their preferred airline. The carrier won Most Outstanding Airline at the 16th Annual National Consumer Awards in a year of citations that also included World’s Best Cabin Crew from the London-based Skytrax survey of over a million global passengers; and the Philippine Marketing Excellence Award for Most Outstanding Airline.
Asiana Airlines Regional Manager Hyun II Kim accepted the award from the Consumers Union of the Philippines in behalf of the company. Chosen as a service category awardee, Asiana was judged based on beneficial effects to Filipino consumers such as price, safety features, availability, honesty of claims and other benefits. Judges also evaluated the airline for other outstanding features and product/service quality.
Asiana operates in three key points in the country: Manila, Clark and Cebu. It is currently the only foreign carrier that services these three routes with 24 flights a week.
Asiana Airlines opened its Clark flights in 2003 as the first international airline to operate in Diosdado Macapagal International Airport. Other smaller lowcost carriers plying international destinations have since followed suit.
Its aircraft have recently been upgraded to a Boeing 777 for Manila-Incheon afternoon flights in light of higher passenger volumes.
Asiana maintains a current fleet of 60 aircraft and over 7,200 employees worldwide. With the holidays coming up, the airline is flying in many balikbayans and visitors from its new US destination, Chicago. It flies to New York almost daily and also counts Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle among its US destinations. Asiana flies to 54 cities across the globe.
