TACLOBAN CITY — Around 100 fully armed members of the New People’s Army (NPA) raided last night the Albuera, Leyte police station and carted away several firearms and ammunition and government documents.
Supt. Gene Blando of the Leyte police said the rebels took 21 M-16 rifles, eight cal. 38 revolvers, and confidential documents of the police station at 7 p.m.
Blando said the NPAs surprised the five policemen guarding the police station.
He said the NPAs arrived onboard a closed van and a multicab.
The rebels hogtied the two duty policemen while the three other policemen were made to lie down on the floor of the municipal hall.
Several NPA rebels served as blocking force at the national highway leading to Ormoc City and Baybay, Leyte.
The rebels fled to the mountains of Albuera, just a few kilometers away from Ormoc City.
Army soldiers from the 19th Infantry Batallion in Kananga and the 43rd Infantry Battalon based in Baybay immediately responded and are now conducting a massive manhunt against the rebels.
The incident is the first raid conducted by the NPA on a police station in Leyte this year.
