Filipinos have once again brought pride and honor to the country in the recently concluded Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). Countless men and women made their mark across the different, highly competitive sports. Among these were the Pink Cream Silk Girl Power Athletes, who exuded both beauty and strength in the midst of all the pressure and stress that come with their respective sports – Monica Santos from the Women’s Football team, Veronica Domingo from the Taekwondo team and Janice Hung from the Wushu team.
While the Philippine Women’s Soccer team did not succeed in bringing home the gold, football enthusiasts were treated to a hard-fought and extremely exciting game when the team faced off with their more experienced counterparts from Indonesia and Vietnam. That’s why despite the lack of medal, Monica Santos remains very proud of her team.
"The SEA Games was a great experience for me. The thrill of the game, the cheers from the crowd, the support from our families, friends, managers and even strangers are things I will never forget. I also treasure the fact that we got to meet new people and make new friends," Monica shared.
Yet another formidable group is the Philippine Taekwondo team who not only earned the admiration of their competitors, but also reaped a total of 12 medals from various divisions, including one from Veronica Domingo. The pretty taekwondo middleweight fought hard to the very end and put up a hard fight all throughout the competition, earning a silver in the female middleweight category. Now that the Sea Games is over and done with, Veronica has gone back to her old routine of coaching TKO to the FEU team and regular training to keep herself in tip-top shape for future competitions.
Another source of Philippine pride is Janice Hung who successfully bagged the silver medal in the female category. Janice showed off her exceptional grace, executing her flawless routine with absolute confidence. A real standout on the mat for her head-turning beauty, towering height and softer, straighter hair, Janice was easily the crowd favorite during the competitions.
"Hearing the crowd cheer and seeing everyone who came to see the games was really wonderful. Knowing that all those people were rooting for me definitely inspired me to be confident, to stay focused and to just give my very best," Janice confessed.
These SEA Games beauties perfectly exemplify the Cream Silk Pink Power, Girl Power philosophy of excelling in their chosen field of sports, yet always remaining beautiful. This roster of powerful female athletes also includes karting queen Michele Bumgarner. Displaying both beauty and skill in more ways than one, Michele is a two-time Karter of the Year awardee. She recently tested her mettle in Suzuka, Japan where she was the only female and the only Philippine driver who raced with top drivers from Europe and Japan. And while technical problems prevented her from taking the top spot, Michele was undoubtedly at par with the world’s finest racers.
With their winsome looks and exceptional skills, Monica, Veronica, Janice and Michele definitely belong to this generation’s most admirable set of young and accomplished individuals. Even at their young age, these ladies have what it takes to succeed in their respective sporting endeavors because of their intense passion and wholehearted dedication - the perfect combination of beauty and strength.
