Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director-General Arturo Lomibao reported Sunday night the arrest of 46 persons who were for allegedly caught participating in a "jueteng" operation in General Trias, Cavite.
Lomibao said operatives of the PNP’s Anti-Illegal Gambling Special Operations Task Force (AIGSOTF) under Chief Supt. Antonio Nanas conducted the operations at Holiday Homes Subdivision, General Trias, Cavite at 5:30 p.m. last Sunday.
The suspects were whisked from General Trias, Cavite to the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame on board three passenger jeeps and a Hyundai van.
Lomibao said they all participated in the operation of an illegal numbers game in the subdivision.
He the suspects were charged with violation of Republic Act No. 8627 which imposes prison terms of up to 16 years on jueteng financiers and capitalists, and up to 10 years for collectors or agents.
At the same time, Lomibao ordered the relief of Chief Inspector Conrado Gongon, General Trias police chief, for his failure to prevent jueteng operation in his jurisdiction.
The arrest was made by the police after reports surfaced that jueteng has resumed operations in Cavite.
The anti-gambling operation was conducted a day after Malacañang expressed concern about the resurgence of jueteng in some provinces.
