TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — The body of Boholana US Army Sgt. Myla Maravillosa will arrive here today, amid a grieving crowd composed of her mother, local government officials, school officials, and friends.
Mayor Josephine Jumamoy of Inabanga, Bohol, the hometown of Myla, confirmed that the plane carrying the remains of Myla will arrive at the Tagbilaran City Airport at 9:15 a.m. today.
Jumamoy said the remains of Myla will arrive directly in Manila from Dover, Delaware, United States, and will be brought to this city immediately.
Estelita Maravillosa, Myla’s mother, would fetch her daughter’s body at the Tagbilaran airport, together with Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado, and officials of U-og Elementary School and Holy Spirit School, where Myla completed her elementary and high school education.
"We, the town and provincial officials headed by Gov. Erico Aumentado will be there at the airport to fetch her remains," said Estelita.
Aumentado earlier said Boholanos were saddened by the death of Myla but were proud that she showed bravery and courage in serving her adopted country, the United States.
From the airport, Myla’s remains will be brought to Inabanga, where she will be buried next to her father’s grave.
The US State Department will pay all the burial cost, and has been working out on all the funeral requirements since Maravillosa was a US citizen, said Estelita.
